OverviewJoin to apply for the Sr. Commercial Counsel (Financial Services) role at Databricks.Location: We're looking to hire for this role locally to our offices based in New York City, San Francisco, Mountain View, Denver, Bellevue, or Seattle. This will be a hybrid role with in-office expectations. Databricks is seeking an experienced commercial attorney to join the growing commercial and go-to-market legal team. As Senior Counsel, you will review and negotiate customer agreements and provide legal support for Databricks’ revenue-generating activities. You will report to the Director & AGC, Commercial Legal.You should have 7+ years of commercial legal experience with a focus on complex technology transactions and a track record supporting financial services clients, including SaaS commercial transactions, and knowledge of data privacy, information security, AI, and intellectual property issues (including open source software).ResponsibilitiesBecome an important member of the commercial and go-to-market legal team responsible for reviewing and negotiating commercial customer agreements, with an emphasis on supporting financial services organizations (banks, insurance companies, asset managers, fintech). Focus on balancing/mitigating risk while enabling rapid revenue growth.Cultivate strong relationships with field sales by providing sound, strategic counsel to close sales transactions and support ongoing go-to-market efforts.Maintain and update legal agreements, ensuring terms and internal policies enable rapid revenue growth and long-term stability for the company.Serve as a solutions-oriented business partner by providing pragmatic, sound legal counsel to internal Databricks clients and our customer base based on understanding of Databricks’ technology, product portfolio, information security, and data privacy/compliance policies.Work cross-functionally with Finance, Information Security, Product, and Privacy to align, communicate, and enforce applicable policies and controls to global contracting processes.What We Look ForMinimum of seven (7) years of technology transactions experience at a law firm and/or in-house attorney role.Extensive experience supporting commercial transactions for cloud-based software companies, with significant work involving financial services clients. Comfortable with consumption- and commit-based models and aligning legal support with quarterly sales cadences. Proven ability to counsel on complex legal issues while balancing material risk.Expertise drafting and negotiating complex sell-side agreements and advising on data privacy, information security, AI, and IP (including open source), with understanding of regulatory and procurement considerations in the financial sector.Ability to prioritize competing demands and respond to client expectations in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.Growth mindset, attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.Collaborative approach with strong interlock with clients, business partners, and stakeholders.Experience or interest in mentoring junior legal team members.JD and good standing to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.Pay RangeDatabricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is Zone 3 Pay Range: $173,300—$242,600 USD. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, skills, certifications, and location.
