Job Description

OverviewThe Chief Financial Officer for Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC), La Junta, CO, reports to the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors and CHC’s Vice President of Hospital Financial Operations. The CFO provides leadership and oversight of the hospital/'s financial planning and financial operations while ensuring compliance with the hospital/'s mission, vision, values, goals, strategic direction, and applicable laws and regulations.The CFO appraises the organization/'s financial position, issues periodic financial and operating reports, directs the hospital/'s financial planning, revenue cycle, payroll, and accounting practices, and oversees treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, purchasing, and real estate.The CFO develops and implements policies and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles; ensures proper accountability and reporting to federal and state agencies and all matters pertinent to fiscally responsible operations.The CFO maintains positive relationships and effective communications with lending institutions, the financial community, CHC, medical staff, employees, volunteers, community representatives and board members as appropriate. This role ensures AVRMC policies and procedures are followed and fulfills the leadership role in the CEO/'s absence.ResponsibilitiesSupports the mission of the hospital.Participates in the preparation and management of sound operating, project and capital budgets. Ensures effective use of risk management, financial controls, productivity measures, reimbursement principles and contracting. Meets budget-critical financial metrics. Effectively negotiates third-party contracts. Provides stewardship of all financial and physical resources.Analyzes operational data to identify areas for improvement and implements solutions to enhance financial performance and efficiency.Ensures hospital compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards and hospital policies and procedures rules and regulations.Participates in the development of the facility/'s strategic plan and short and long-term objectives to ensure continued growth and service provision to the community; implements plans and programs as approved by the governing board.Collects and analyzes data from internal and external sources regarding current operations, finance, accounting, information management and related processes; conducts needs analysis, prioritizes needs, applies problem solving skills, identifies alternative processes and potential solutions and acts to implement changes to improve financial operations.Oversees human resources functions, ensuring adequate staffing, talent development, and effective performance management.Sets clear, consistent goals and expectations; holds self and others accountable; demonstrates high performance, reliability, and delivers results with an ownership culture.Manages and secures hospital data and information systems.Maintains the hospital/'s compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.Participates in the hospital/'s Compliance Program and provides timely support documentation and reporting as required.QualificationsBS/BA degree in finance, accounting, business or a related discipline requiredA CPA designation preferredA graduate level degree is a plusRevenue Cycle experienceCritical Access Hospital experience is a plusExperience with Meditech is a plusExperience and Skills5 – 7 years of progressive career experience in Hospital Finance/Accounting. Hospital CFO experience required.Knowledge of operations for Critical Access Hospital (CAH) including government programs specific to CAHs.Requires managerial experience and demonstrated understanding and experience with hospital financial reporting, revenue cycle management, accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, treasury, audit, tax, payroll, information technology and materials management.Knowledge of hospital and health care practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to health care finance.Knowledge of financial management, accounting systems, treasury practices, risk management, financial controls, productivity measures, risk management, reimbursement principles, managed care contracting, information management, and materials management.Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in leadership, strategic management, change management, communications, team building, continuous quality improvement, problem solving, decision-making, innovation, and stewardship of resources.As a full-time employee, Community Hospital Corporation offers a competitive salary, discretionary bonus opportunity, and eligibility to participate in the company/'s benefit programs.
