At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.We are seeking a meticulous and highly organized Staff Accountant with a strong background in accounts payable and payroll operations. This role plays a vital part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely payment processing, and administering end-to-end payroll for employees. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of accounting principles, demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards, and handle confidential information with a high level of discretion and integrity.RESPONSIBILITIESAccounts Payable (A/P):The Accounts Payable Specialist is a service-oriented accounting position that serves as a primary point of contact for assigned business accountsProcess various types of accounts payable transactions, including data entry of vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursementRespond to vendor inquiries and interacting with both internal and external stakeholders to address inquiries and report requestsReview all invoices daily for appropriate documentation and approval before paymentAnalyze invoices and code them to appropriate general ledger accounts and departments/cost centersWork with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve any payment and invoice discrepanciesWork closely with other departments to explore discount opportunities, verifies Tax ID numbers, resolves payment discrepancies, ensure credit is received for outstanding credit, and obtains ACH instructions for vendor payments.This position will maintain vendor records, including W-9 and tax informationPayroll:Work closely with HR to ensure accurate and timely full cycle payroll (hourly and salaried) processing, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and organizational policiesCollaborate interdepartmentally to verify timely and accurate receipt of hourly timesheets and time off requestsExperience with payroll preparation, worker’s compensation audit, wage garnishment policies, and business tax statementsEnsure the review of payroll taxes and ensure the accuracy and timely filing of payroll taxes in compliance with GAAPIdentify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in the payroll general ledger, proactively addressing potential issuesPartner with HR and the Controller on any ad hoc data collection to ensure informed decision-making and drive process optimization will be key to your rolesPrepare accrual and liability account reconciliationStay updated with multi-state payroll regulations and ensure consistent complianceGeneral Accounting:Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing proceduresSupport the preparation of financial statements and reportsReconcile balance sheet accounts, including A/P and payroll-related liabilitiesCollaborate with other departments to improve financial processes and controlsQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field3–5 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on A/P and payrollProficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks)Experience with payroll platforms (e.g., Gusto, Rippling)Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, etc.)Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time managementStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to handle sensitive information with discretionPreferred Qualifications:Experience in a multi-state payroll environment.Knowledge of GAAP and internal control procedures.Location PolicyWe believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.Typical interviewprocessIntroductions - interviews to learn more about you and talk about 1X and the roleInterview with a member of the Talent Acquisition teamHiring manager / senior team member/ technical interviewTeam interviews - technical interviews and deep-dives with team members.
