OverviewThe Senior Data Scientist will lead advanced analytics initiatives to support federal IT modernization efforts. This role involves designing and implementing machine learning models, conducting statistical analysis, and translating complex data into actionable insights for mission-critical decision-making.ResponsibilitiesLead the development of predictive models and data-driven solutions.Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements and municate findings through visualizations, dashboards, and reports.Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with federal standards.Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and federal stakeholders to define analytics goals, data requirements, and success metrics.Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced machine learning models (using specified platforms) to address complex business and operational challenges across federal programs.Oversee and guide junior data analysts, ensuring alignment with project goals and best practices.Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify trends, forecast outcomes, and support evidence-based decision-making.Create interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations to present insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.Ensure data governance, privacy, and compliance with federal standards, including FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST frameworks.RequirementsProficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies.Excellent communication and presentation skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.Minimum 5 years of experience in data science or analytics roles.Proven experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, and data mining.Strong understanding of federal data governance and security requirements.US Citizenship Required.Tribal RelationshipsThe employee will be exposed to activity involving tribal communities. Responsible for adopting a culture of advocacy while protecting tribal interests. Must be respectful and sensitive to the unique sovereignty and tribal governance issues.Supervisory ControlsThis position reports directly to the President of Akiak Technology, who provides administrative direction. Supervisor oversight includes:☐ Supervisory: This position is considered supervisory and requires at least 25% of the position’s time to oversee the work of subordinates. The employee works independently with completed tasks in accordance to goals and objectives.☐ Non-Supervisory (Technical): This position works in Agile cross-functional teams where tasks are assigned collaboratively, or through project schedules.☒ Non-Supervisory (General): This position works in an environment that includes supervisory oversight of general assignments.Physical DemandsWork is primarily indoors in an office setting. No unusual physical activity is required. You may travel to Alaska, and in doing so will expose the employee to extreme cold: temperatures typically -10 up to -50 degrees below freezing wind chill for periods of up to 5 hours outside, with frequent breaks in warm dry areas. Employee must be able to lift their personal luggage and any personal equipment/supplies and climb into and out of small planes with confined spaces.Writing/CommunicationThe employee may support federal programs under contract. Contract compliance activities, including scope of work, deliverables, and reporting on contract management activities to Company leadership is required. Ability to clearly articulate and provide technical guidance and assistance to senior agency program managers in the application of the advanced principles, practices and techniques of a specialized field of engineering/science.TeleworkingThe company has a hybrid remote policy for all employees and is dependent upon the type of position. This position may be assigned to support a federal contract, or to work in office. The Company’s teleworking eligibility may not apply if the employee is supporting a federal services contract. In this instance, the employee may be subject to federal telework policies and may be required to work onsite in the federal facility when requested.Position Sensitivity and Risk DesignationModerate Risk. The position may support federal or state contracts. When required, the employee must at least go through a basic background check that can yield a public trust designation to make sure you are reliable, trustworthy, and suitable for the job. A moderate risk position is likely to produce a fair amount of harm or serious damage to the public’s trust. The agency with whom the contract is with will ask you for the necessary personal information to start the background investigation process. The amount of information you’ll need to give depends on the contract award. Following the investigation, the agency will make their trustworthiness determination.Employee Non-DisclosureThe employee must sign and attest to the Company’s non-disclosure statement.
