Overview GENERAL COUNSEL The Santa Monica Rent Control Board is accepting applications for the position of General Counsel. Applicants must be admitted to the California State Bar and have a minimum of 7 years' experience in the area of rent control or housing. Litigation experience, including appellate practice and administrative writs of mandate, and experience advising public bodies regarding open meeting laws such as the Brown Act is required. Experience in FPPC and conflicts of interest laws required. Desirable experience includes familiarity with employment law and attorney supervision. Responsibilities Provide legal counsel to the Santa Monica Rent Control Board and staff on rent control, housing, and related regulatory matters. Litigate as needed, including appellate practice and administrative writs of mandate. Advise on open meeting laws (Brown Act) and FPPC and conflicts of interest compliance. Supervise and contribute to employment law matters and attorney supervision as appropriate. Qualifications Admitted to the California State Bar. Minimum of 7 years' experience in rent control or housing law. Litigation experience, including appellate practice and administrative writs of mandate. Experience advising public bodies on open meeting laws (Brown Act). Experience with FPPC and conflicts of interest laws. Desirable: familiarity with employment law and attorney supervision. Salary and Benefits Salary: $16,299 - $20,122 per month plus substantial benefits.
