OverviewDESCRIPTION: Data Systems Analyst 3. This is a 100% contract position for 1 year with the possibility of extension or conversion to career status. Hybrid worksite; 100% appointment; 8-hour days, Monday–Friday. Extended deadline: Thu 9/18/2025.DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: The Mission of the San Diego Supercomputer Center is to translate innovation into practice. SDSC partners on innovations in industry and academia in software, hardware, computational and data sciences, and related areas, and translates them into cyberinfrastructure that solves practical problems across scientific domains and societal endeavors. SDSC operates large HPC systems, offers cloud services, data services, and educational programs, and supports thousands of researchers through Unix accounts and research data services. SDSC is committed to democratizing access to cyberinfrastructure across geographic scopes and fostering a diverse, inclusive work environment.POSITION OVERVIEW: Applies seasoned data/information management expertise to resolve complex issues, with duties including data collection, curation, analysis, and dissemination, and software development related to Internet measurements data for CAIDA at UC San Diego Supercomputer Center. Responsibilities include configuring and maintaining measurement systems, supporting a virtualized cloud research computing environment, managing passive tracing platforms and time-series databases, and assisting researchers and collaborators with vetted measurements experiments.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with CAIDA’s Systems Administrator on configuration, remote maintenance, and security of measurement systems.Maintain passive monitoring platforms to capture two-way passive traces data; ensure data anonymization, post-processing, curation, and sharing protocols.Maintain time-series databases for two-way and Internet background radiation (unsolicited traffic) traces.Support users running vetted measurement experiments on CAIDA infrastructure (e.g., ITDK, Ark, BGPStream).Interact with external collaborators and support research programmers, visiting researchers, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows on publications and research.Capture, curate, and share four types of security-relevant Internet measurement data (topology, routing, unsolicited traffic, DNS); manage metadata and administer new vetted experiments.Assist with data collection and curation using environment-specific tools; manage disk space and offload data to distributed/cloud or long-term storage facilities.Assist in developing documentation and tooling related to data collection, storage, and analysis.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Familiarity with data model patterns and ability to read scientific papers to understand data use cases.Ability to present information in abstract models and to design/generate reports using graphs and standard tools (Grafana, Python visualization libraries, spreadsheets, pivot tables, and statistical tools).Experience with UNIX operating systems and shell scripting (Ubuntu).Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python, Go) for data processing; familiarity with JavaScript or related libraries for web authoring.Strong knowledge of data management systems, practices, and standards; ability to apply advanced computing technology for data modeling, analysis, storage management, and related functions.SPECIAL CONDITIONSJob offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.Pay TransparencyAnnual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (prorated if appointment percentage Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, education, licensure/certifications, and other business needs.
