We are all accountable for sustaining a diverse and inclusive environment.What You Will Contribute To Altos6-Month ContractAn exciting opportunity is available for an exceptional, highly motivated Scientist, Computational Biology with an understanding of human genetics at the Institute of Computation (IoC) at Altos Labs.ResponsibilitiesHarvest and analyze data from genetic association testing to dissect the molecular and cellular basis of disease.Conduct computational research related to areas such as chronic disease risk and modifiers thereof by integrating data from multiple biologic sources (i.e. genetics, molecular biomarkers, phenotyping)Enable scalable research efforts by supporting the ingestion, storage, harmonization, QC, and access of large data resourcesConfer with information technology, computational biology, and machine learning specialists to enable and streamline genetic data analysis.Contribute to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusionWho You AreMinimum QualificationsPhD in Statistical Genetics, Data Science, or Computer Science3+ years experience in an academic postdoctoral or industry research settingFamiliarity with data from genetic association testing (e.g. GWAS, rare variant analysis)Experience with large nation-scale biobank data (e.g. UK Biobank), understanding of genetic, omics, and disease ontology dataProficiency in relevant programming languages (Python, R, AI/ML) and best practices in reproducible data analysisTrack record of publications in peer-reviewed journalsExcellent collaboration skills and ability to thrive in the highly collaborative environment across AltosTeam player and effective communicatorPreferred QualificationsHands-on experience with the UK Biobank Research Access Platform (RAP) or similar biobank IDE.History of generating reproducible workflows or pipelines for bioinformatic data analysisPrior experience with GWAS summary statistics harmonization and QC, fine-mapping, colocalization, Mendelian RandomizationThe hourly range for Redwood City, CA: Scientist II, Computational Biology (6 month CONTRACT): $84.00 - $121.00/hourThe hourly range for San Diego, CA: Scientist II, Computational Biology (6 month CONTRACT): $78.00 - $106.00/hourExact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.Equal Opportunity EmploymentAltos Labs provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment, without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
