This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is motivated by building scalable systems and teams from the ground up.ROLE SUMMARYThe Director of Engineering is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of engineering service delivery, technical strategy, and product innovation. This individual will manage a high-performing team of engineers, and serve as the primary liaison between technical staff, clients, and internal stakeholders. The Director will also be actively involved in pre-sales engineering, client relationship management, and revenue growth through technical consulting and solution development.Our clients typically range from 20 to 300 end users across a mix of industries. The Director of Engineering will design scalable and sustainable solutions that address the unique needs of SMB and mid-market organizations.This role reports directly to the CEO and directly manages all engineering and infrastructure team members.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESEngineering Leadership — Manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers across multiple technical domainsOversee technical project delivery, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with client goalsImplement engineering best practices, standard operating procedures, and professional development frameworksAct as the final escalation point for complex technical issues and client concerns, ensuring swift resolution and team alignmentClient Engagement & ConsultingAct as a trusted advisor to key clients, guiding strategic infrastructure, security, and modernization initiativesConduct technical discovery, solution design, and presentations during client meetingsMaintain executive-level relationships with enterprise and SMB clientsSales Engineering & Service DevelopmentPartner with the sales team to scope and present new technology solutions and packaged service offerings aligned with client needsLead technical responses to RFPs and support sales cycles with demos, diagrams, and architecture proposalsStrategic Planning & InnovationIn a growing team, contribute cross-functionally — from hiring and vendor relationships to service delivery optimization and internal tooling improvementsIdentify opportunities for operational efficiency and automationDrive the adoption of modern infrastructure, cloud, and security practicesContribute to company strategy and long-term planning as part of the senior leadership teamReporting & Documentation ResponsibilitiesEstablish and maintain regular reporting on engineering team performance, project status, and key metrics for executive leadershipEnsure accurate and timely documentation of all client-facing solutions, project deliverables, internal infrastructure, and engineering processesDevelop and enforce documentation standards and templates to ensure consistency across engineering outputsCollaborate with the operations and account management teams to produce documentation for compliance, client onboarding, and technical auditsSupport knowledge transfer and continuity through well-maintained internal wikis, runbooks, and technical playbooksTrack and report on SLAs, escalations, and system uptime to guide service improvements and resource planningREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS10+ years of experience in IT engineering, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership roleProven experience managing technical teams in a client-facing environment (MSP experience strongly preferred)Strong understanding of networking, cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS), virtualization, and cybersecurityDemonstrated ability to translate technical concepts into business value for clients and executivesTrack record of successful pre-sales engineering and service developmentExcellent verbal and written communication skills, including executive-level presentationsBachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related fieldPREFERRED CERTIFICATIONSCisco CCNP or CCIEMicrosoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect ExpertMicrosoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) – Cloud Platform & InfrastructureAWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)ITIL, PMP, or other project/process certificationsCompliance & Background RequirementsTo maintain employment with our company, by mandate, each employee mustBe a U.S. Citizen and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean recordPass a MSHP/Federal fingerprint-based background checkComplete CJIS Security & Privacy Training CertificationWe’re looking for a collaborative, empathetic leader who values mentorship, clear communication, and taking initiative.
