About The RoleThe Data Foundations Platform and Governance Engineering team within the Commerce, Data, and Identity organization within the larger Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product and Technology organization is in search of a Lead Software Engineer. The role of this Lead Engineer will focus on privacy solutions and data subject rights automation, working cross-functionally with analytics, data architecture, legal and security partners to build scalable solutions to solve complex privacy related challenges. You’ll get to understand the challenges of how data is being used at Disney’s world-class streaming services while pushing the boundaries of what is possible using the latest technologies available in AWS, Databricks, and beyond. Be a key player in a cross-functional team of engineers who build software for a large-scale data processing ecosystem, supporting real-time and batch data pipelines for analytics, data science, and operations. Architect, design, and code shared libraries in Scala and Python that abstract complex business logic to allow consistent functionality across all data pipelines across the Data organization. Architect and build world-class modular tooling to understand complex environments and create plans for simplification, migration, and maintenance. Maintain software engineering and architecture best practices and standards within the team and wider organization, promoting quality, innovation, and experimentation. Evolve the platform, best practices, and data-driven decisions; identify new use cases and features and drive adoption. Build out robust observability, alerting, logging, and a system control plane for easy diagnosis across all data pipelines. Contribute to maintaining, updating, and expanding existing software deployments while maintaining strict uptime SLAs. Document and contribute to internal and external standards for software deployments, configurations, naming conventions, and partitioning strategies. Maintain detailed documentation to support data quality and data governance requirements. Actively participate in agile/scrum ceremonies to collaborate and improve team processes. Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other engineers to drive the success of the Foundational Platform. Basic Qualifications 7+ years of data engineering experience in software engineering in the data space. Strong software algorithmic problem-solving expertise. Strong fundamental Scala and Python software programming skills. Good understanding of AWS or other cloud provider resources (S3). Strong SQL skills and ability to creatively problem solve and dive deep into the data and software ecosystem. Hands-on production experience with distributed processing systems such as Apache Spark. Hands-on production experience with workflow orchestration systems such as Airflow for creating and maintaining data pipelines. Scripting language experience (Bash, PowerShell). Technologies such as OneTrust, Databricks, Jupyter, Snowflake, Redshift, Airflow, DynamoDB, Redis, Kubernetes, Kinesis, REST APIs, Terraform, Go. SQL, Python, Scala, and other computer software languages. Willingness and ability to learn and pick up new skillsets. Self-starting problem solver with an eye for detail and excellent analytical and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems preferred. Experience with at least one major Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) or cloud database technology (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery). Experience in developing APIs with GraphQL. Experience in developing microservices. Deep understanding of AWS or other cloud providers and infrastructure as code. Familiarity with Data Modeling techniques and Data Warehousing standard methodologies and practices. Familiar with Scrum and Agile methodologies. Familiarity with privacy regulations and/or data subject rights. Required Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience. Additional Information #DISNEYTECH #CDI The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA is $152,200 - $204,100 per year and in New York, NY is $159,500 - $213,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
