Compensation Type: Yearly Overview The General Manager is responsible for continually focusing on achieving hotel profitability through revenue generation, cost control, guest satisfaction and developing employees, while maintaining the integrity of the hotel. Location Studio Allston is situated in Allston, Boston, MA. Allston is a hub for the inventive spirit and energy that has made Boston an international destination, home to elite universities, venues, and diverse dining and nightlife. About Highgate Highgate is a premier real estate investment and hospitality management company recognized as an innovator in the industry. Highgate operates in major markets and maintains corporate offices in London, New York, Dallas, and Seattle. Responsibilities Tour the operating departments daily, making adjustments as needed via department heads. Conduct weekly staff meetings and training sessions, review sales and operations efforts, and apply Highgate Hotel standards. Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion. Hold a monthly financial review with all department managers, M.I.D.'s and available supervisors. Ensure department heads maintain budgeted productivity levels and follow standard accounting procedures. Develop managers for future advancement through competency training and corporate programs. Work with the Director of Sales on daily HHBR meetings to track prospecting and account calls and potential business results. Play a pivotal role in hotel sales efforts, including top accounts outreach, client meetings, luncheons and receptions, and on-site meetings. Participate in required Manager on Duty (MOD) coverage as scheduled. Maintain direct contact with and monitor the development of management trainees. Adhere to all Highgate Hotel policies and train new managers to ensure compliance. Oversee and assist in the budget process as required. Ensure training in service standards is conducted in all departments per Highgate standards, including weekly Garden standard training. Assist in creating a positive, team-oriented environment focused on guest service through employee development and motivation. Inspect rooms with the Housekeeping Manager and Property Engineer on a regular basis. Ensure invoices are processed daily using accounts payable procedures. Coordinate with Corporate Office to provide monthly financial information in compliance with the accounting calendar. Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of the property through inspections and preventive maintenance programs. Maintain guest- and employee-facing standards of service and appearance. Forecast monthly the hotel's financial position and prepare reforecasts as needed. Recruiting and hiring: conduct interviews, follow SOPs, and ensure compliance with standards for departmental staff. Interview final candidates for vacant management positions before offers are extended. Conduct performance appraisals and manage staff performance in line with Highgate SOPs. Motivate, coach, counsel and discipline management personnel per SOPs. Perform other duties as requested by the Vice President or Regional Director of Operations. Ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees per SOPs. Meet clients on the property to assist in sales and be active in public areas during peak times to assist guests. Ensure procedures for hotel safety and security, including monthly safe audits, are followed. Lead monthly credit meetings and participate in hotel credit and collection policies. Complete required corporate training modules and become certified as required. Ensure scheduled meetings take place on property. Qualifications At least 6 years progressive experience in a hotel or related field; or a 4-year college degree with 4–5 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree with 5–6 years of related experience. Light work – exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently to move objects. Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times. Effective verbal and written communication with all levels of employees and guests. Ability to listen, understand, and clarify concerns from employees and guests. Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines. Approach all interactions with guests and employees in a service-oriented manner. Attend all required meetings and trainings. Participate in MOD coverage as required. Maintain regular attendance per Highgate standards; scheduling varies by hotel needs. Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including nametags. Comply with Highgate Hotel standards and regulations to ensure safe and efficient operations. Effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary. Ability to understand and evaluate complex information from various sources to meet objectives. Maintain confidentiality of information.
