Sr. Accountant

What You'll DoThe Sr. Accountant is an integral part of a growing accounting team and oversees general ledger accounting close process (e.g., fixed assets, leases, G&A accruals, among others). This position is an individual contributor and currently reports to the Associate Director of Accounting. This role requires interaction with various business units and third-party contacts. A successful candidate is organized, proactive, results-oriented, analytical, detail focused, and motivated to deliver excellence in their work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment.ResponsibilitiesManage monthly closing of assigned general ledger (GL) accounts with emphasis on long-debt, royalty obligations, embedded derivative liability, software capitalization (ASC 350-40), and G&A prepayments and accruals, lease accounting (ASC 842) and fixed assets.Prepare monthly closing workpapers and analyses for the assigned GL accounts to ensure accurate and timely recognition of expenses, prepayments and deposits, and accruals.Review contracts for new POs to ensure proper accounting for expenses, prepaids, and accruals.Prepare journal entries and related supporting workpapers adhering to quality and compliance requirements.Prepare general ledger account reconciliations for assigned accounts.Prepare rollforward and tie-out schedules for assigned 10Q/10K footnote disclosures, and other ad hoc requested schedules/analyses.Prepare fluctuation analyses on assigned GL accounts.Update amortization schedule for royalty obligations.Update lease amortization schedules, as needed.Collaborate with key contacts in other business units to manage prepayment and accrual processes, including organizing meetings and resolving outstanding items.Prepare audit and tax requested PBC schedules, confirmations and address follow-up items.Ensure SOX compliance by maintaining control procedures and preparing data and analyses to support external audit, internal control and SOX testing.Collaborate with other accounting team members as needed.Process improvements using AI tools.Where You'll WorkThis is a hybrid role and requires in-office collaboration 1-2 days per week in our San Francisco Office.Who You AreDegree in accounting; CPA preferred7+ years of relevant experience in a publicly traded company (Big 4 or similar SEC clients and industry experience) – strongly preferredBiotech experience a plusExperience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Coupa)Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Proficient in AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google GeminiAI RequirementsFoundational Knowledge: Understanding of AI concepts, including machine learning, natural language processing, and data-driven decision-makingApplied Skills: Demonstrated experience using AI tools and platforms to solve business problems or improve workflows.Problem-Solving with AI: Ability to identify opportunities where AI can add value, evaluate risks or limitations, and implement solutions effectively.Behavioral CharacteristicsStrong work ethic with sound judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independentlyAbility to handle a high volume of transactions in a fast-paced environmentResults- and detail-oriented with a focus on process improvementsStrong prioritization and organizational skillsClear communication (oral and written) and collaborationHigh sense of urgency and ability to identify creative solutions to time-sensitive problemsAbility to handle sensitive issues with prudent discretion across all levels of the organizationCommitment to delivering quality results while overcoming obstacles in a time-sensitive environmentExcellent project management; can juggle multiple work streams while remaining calm under pressureRewarding Those Who Make the Mission PossibleWe have high expectations for our team. Salary range for candidates in California: $105,000 - $145,000 USD.
