OverviewUnderwriter - Credit & Surety at Swiss Re. Location: Seattle or San Francisco (hybrid work model). The role involves underwriting and managing an assigned territory within the Continental U.S. to approve commercial and commercial contract surety bonds, manage agency relationships, market for new business, and drive profitability through financial and qualitative analysis.ResponsibilitiesUnderwrite and approve surety credit within your authority; ensure profitable underwriting decisions through financial analysis.Analyze annual and internal financial statements and other relevant credit information for new and existing accounts.Evaluate new account submissions for all commercial agents in the assigned territory.Maintain current underwriting files in accordance with Swiss Re Surety Group procedures.Enhance and manage agency relationships, identify and secure new agencies, and adjust or terminate relationships that do not meet revenue and profit objectives; schedule regular meetings with agents.Establish revenue goals and monitor losses for the assigned region.Maintain a strong working relationship with Claims; review losses with Claims.Assist the Regional Manager in developing one- to three-year territorial strategies; assist the SVP – Commercial Surety with internal audits as needed.Plan and conduct regular agent meetings, participate in group functions, large account meetings, and regional Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Surety Group activities.Lead special projects as delegated by the SVP – Commercial.Qualifications / About YouBachelor’s degree with emphasis in business, preferably finance or accounting, or equivalent relevant experience in commercial surety underwriting.Experience level: 10+ years for Branch Manager; 7–10 years for Senior Underwriter; 3–5 years for Underwriter.Minimum 2–3 years of surety underwriting experience.Strong marketing skills and ability to obtain new business and work with commercial clients.Strong quantitative and financial analysis skills; effective written and verbal communication.Proficient in Excel and Word; ability to travel up to 35%.This position may be located in Seattle or San Francisco. Our company uses a hybrid work model with in-office or client visits three days per week. The salary range is $156,000 to $246,000, with compensation determined by location, scope, qualifications, and budget.
