The Insurance Services Self-Insurance program provides impartial oversight and timely, expert services to all employers in Washington State that elect to administer and pay their own workers’ compensation claims.Job HighlightsYou have the chance to make a difference on the Certification Services team by joining our team as our next Auditor 4. We process applications for self-insured employers and manage their workers’ compensation accounts in Washington State. If you are a detail-oriented individual who possesses knowledge of accounting, auditing, and financial analysis and you strive to provide excellent customer service, don’t miss this this position you will manage Self-Insured workers’ compensation accounts which will include establishing, monitoring, and managing the required financial surety for all active self-insured employers and those considering joining Self-Insurance. You will be responsible for the analysis of business-related restructuring, sales, acquisitions, and merger activities of the self-insured employers to ensure continued workers’ compensation coverage is maintained for all effected business activities. You will also work with employers that are past due to ensure payment. In addition, you will lead and provide technical guidance to lower-level auditor staff.ResponsibilitiesUnderwrite and maintain self-insured employer workers’ compensation accounts.Determine if employers are meeting statutory obligations to either insure with the State Fund or to Self-insure and assist prospective employers through the application process.Evaluate employer annual SIF-7 reporting for accurate claims, hours, and reserve costs.Audit loss development fiscal analysis and inform employers of their financial surety requirement.Assist staff with all activities in the operation of the unit. Train, coach, and evaluate work of lower-level Auditors.Review employer accounts submitted by lower-level staff and recommend escalating to the supervisor for corrective action or not.Coordinate and oversee annual billings and notices to employers.Assist with daily receipts and posting of receipts.Assist Financial Examiners to prepare and submit accounting reports to Financial Services.Assist department supervisors and actuaries with the annual expediting of pension reserve reconciliations.Train new and existing staff.Create detailed program specific procedures and training tools.Maintain and update training manuals per policy and system changes.Assist with hiring processes, including interviewing and making hiring recommendations.And much more.RequiredA Bachelor’s degree which includes at least 18 quarter or 12 semester hours of accounting classes.Three (3) years of professional accounting, bookkeeping, or auditing experience.Equivalent work experience/education can be substituted year-for-year for education and/or earned concurrently but must include at least 18 quarter or 12 semester hours of accounting classes.DesiredKnowledge of principles of underwriting, financial analysis, auditing, accounting, or corporate business structures.Functions and format of the department’s accounting system, retrieval and manipulation of data from management information systems and best practices of actuarial forecasting.Proficient in the use and adaptation of software applications, database and spreadsheet applications, whether mainframe or personal computer based.Excellent customer and communication skills.Knowledge of databases or spreadsheet applications.Things You Need To KnowAt L&I, your voice matters.
