Overview The Director of Cultural Engagement & Enrichment will be responsible for a broad scope of programs, trainings, support structures and initiatives, as well as advising, mentoring, and collaborating with cultural clubs, units, and organizations in support of the mission of the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Mission Integration, with particular emphasis on supporting the success and engagement of the University of La Verne ( ULV ) diverse student population. The primary duties for this position include directing all aspects of support including strategic planning, student success, advising, and center operations which includes implementing, evaluating, and advocating for the creation of support structures to more fully engage and support our historically marginalized communities, with a particular focus on Black/African American students and the Give Something Back ( GSB ) Scholars. To this end, the Director will have a proven record of leading, supporting, planning, implementing, evaluating, and advocating for program initiatives in support of the Black/African American, Latina/o, Foster Youth, LGBTQ and other marginalized communities. The programmatic initiatives in support of Black students will include but not be limited to advising of the Black Student Union, creation of a Black Scholars Advisory Board, summer bridge program, etc.; inclusive of creating a programmatic initiative for family engagement and ULV employee training and development. Additionally, the Director will lead programming and work directly in-close collaboration and support of the cultural clubs and organizations on campus; co-directing multicultural graduations and leading monthly cultural programming including convening and leading planning committees; attending and participating in various departmental, divisional and other appropriate campus-wide meetings; assessing all programmatic initiatives and contributing to end-of-year reports; supervise grad intern assistants; budget management; managing of program software related to program planning, implementation, and evaluation as well as social media; creating and maintaining program files and other related duties as assigned by the AVP of Inclusive Excellence & Mission integration to assist in the managing of the daily operations connected to running the Center for Multicultural Services and the student employees. Minimum Qualifications A minimum of four years experience, at a professional level, working in a higher education multicultural office/center having served historically marginalized students, with a proven record of creating and supporting successful Black student initiatives. Knowledge of and proven ability to work with historically marginalized communities. A keen understanding of the Black/African American, Latina/o, and LGBTQ community with a record of effective engagement and creation of support structures in a higher education setting. Knowledge and ability to lead diverse communities in a human relations growth process. Again, with an understanding of the identity development needs of various marginalized communities. Experience engaging across diverse populations, entities, organizations, communities, etc. Preferred Qualifications Preference for person who has worked a minimum of 4 years, as a professional, in a higher education multicultural office/center having served historically marginalized students and their family (parents), and has a proven record of success creating and supporting Black student initiatives. Experience having lead or participated in campus-wide human relations/diversity retreats. Having created innovative programs to increase retention and graduation rates for African American, Latina/o, Pacific Islander, Native American, first generation and other marginalized student groups. To have worked directly with parents and included them in the learning enterprise. Coursework in identity development theory, life span, critical pedagogy, critical race theory, or history of race and oppression in the United States is desirable. Master’s degree, preferably in the areas of: Education, Psychology, Sociology, Human Relations, Liberal Studies, Leadership and Management or a related field.
