Technical writers here play a critical role in our customer success, serving as builders who see documentation as a critical product that bridges the gap between sophisticated systems and the people who use them. As a Technical Writer, you/'ll apply your considerable writing, data, and technical skills to create content that helps data scientists, data engineers, and data analysts use Databricks. You/'ll partner with Product, Engineering, and Field teams, experiment with cutting-edge AI tools to help create, maintain, and deliver technical information. The work is fast-paced, but you maintain your attention to detail and customer advocacy. You have experience with data products and cloud services, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly. You have a passion for instructional writing and a focus on clarity. You take an information architect/'s approach to organizing material.The impact you will haveNail complex systems and make them accessible: Dive deep into intricate technical architectures, APIs, and workflows; Transform dense engineering concepts and sophisticated technologies into clear, usable guidance; Collaborate with engineers and product managers to develop effective, customer-focused documentationRoles and responsibilitiesWear multiple hats, solve real problems: Detective — investigate user pain points, dig into customer feedback, trace through complex user journeys, and track down elusive detailsAnalyst — parse data, identify documentation gaps, measure content effectiveness, and use insights to drive planning and prioritizationTester — validate procedures by following your own instructions, catch edge cases, and provide product feedbackProgram Manager — coordinate documentation initiatives across multiple teams and timelines with proven project management skillsProduct Manager — define documentation strategy, prioritize content roadmaps, and advocate for usersDrive strategic impact and customer successShape product decisions by surfacing insights from documentation and user feedbackCollaborate closely with customer-facing technical staff on best practices, onboarding material, and scenario-based guidanceGuide the development of an information architecture that organizes content around customer use casesPioneer AI-augmented documentationUse AI tools to accelerate research, drafting, and content optimizationExperiment with new formats: interactive guides, intelligent tutorials, adaptive documentationWhat We Look ForTechnical foundation & experience4+ years writing complex technical content for developers, software engineers, or similar technical audiencesExperience with at least one programming or query language, especially Python and SQLExperience working with data or AI products and cloud computingFamiliarity with documentation-as-code workflows (Git, Markdown, automated publishing)Track record of improving the customer experience through better documentationDemonstrated understanding of information architecture concepts and how to apply them to a constantly changing websiteAI-forward thinking & builder mindsetExperience with AI writing tools, prompt engineering, or content automation (preferred)Excited about finding new ways to use AI for content creation, optimization, and maintenanceDemonstrated willingness to try new tools, bring new ideas, and experiment with new approaches and technologiesCurious about emerging technologies and their documentation implicationsCommunication & collaboration superpowersEnthusiastic about the investigative side of technical writing: skilled at transforming complex details into clear, useful informationExceptional ability to translate technical complexity into clear, actionable content with strong collaboration and communication skillsExpertise in technical writing tools and style: maintaining a consistent voice, clear and engaging tone, and a solid grasp of grammar and usage rulesStrong project management skills—you can juggle multiple initiatives and drive them to completionExperience gathering requirements from diverse stakeholders and balancing competing prioritiesExperience using data and customer feedback to drive decision-makingProven ability to advocate for user needs and influence product decisionsBonus pointsBackground in UX writing, developer relations, or technical product managementContributions to open source documentation or technical communitiesExperience with analytics tools and data-driven content optimizationWrite code examples and scripts to automate documentation workflows, and contribute to documentation toolingYou/'ve built tools or systems to solve content management challengesPay Range TransparencyDatabricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is listed below and represents the expected salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. The total compensation package may include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits listed above.
