OverviewTHOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated senior-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion) to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. An ideal candidate will have experience with developing ship propulsion and control systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and/or conducting trade studies on propulsion configurations, as well as familiarity with U.S. federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.ResponsibilitiesProvide technical support and documentation to design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, including power supply and propulsion systems.Research and develop ship propulsion systems, including diesels, gas turbines, diesel-electric systems, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, bearings, seals, noise and vibration, and interfaces with dynamic positioning systems, applying them to applicable design and requirements.Develop system documentation and ship specifications.Design, develop, and evaluate operation of marine vessels and shipboard propulsion machinery; review and develop technical data packages; provide oversight on machinery arrangements; conduct and oversee trade studies.Location and TravelLocation: Full-time onsite at USCG Surfaces Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD.Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship pensation and Physical ActivityTypical Pay Range: The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location is $120,000 – 150,000. Actual compensation offered will be based on education, qualifications, and experience.Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve waterfront/shipboard environments, confined spaces, ladders, and hatches.Security and CitizenshipUS Citizenship Required: Due to federal contract requirements, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment.Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance.
