Get AI-powered advice on this job and more exclusive features.Position Summary/ObjectiveThe Director of Facilities and Construction oversees all aspects of facilities management, construction, and maintenance for a fast casual restaurant chain. This role ensures that new locations are built to company standards, existing facilities are well-maintained, and operational needs are met efficiently and cost-effectively.Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction & DevelopmentLead the planning, design, and execution of new restaurant openings and renovations.Manage relationships with architects, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.Develop and oversee budgets, timelines, and scope for construction projects.Ensure compliance with building codes, health/safety regulations, and brand standards.Facilities ManagementOversee the maintenance and repair of all company-owned facilities.Implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime.Ensure facilities are safe, clean, and compliant with all regulations.Manage vendor relationships for facilities services, including cleaning, repairs, and utilities.Lead and develop the facility and construction team based on the needs of the company.Set performance goals, provide coaching, and foster a culture of safety and service excellence.Budget & CompliancePrepare and implement budgets for construction and facilities operations.Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.Ensure all projects and operations align with company policies and legal requirements.Strategic PlanningCollaborate with executive leadership on growth strategies related to site selection, construction, and facilities upgrades.Stay informed on industry trends, new construction techniques, and sustainability practices.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesOversee and manage full-time employeesOversee and manage contractors and subcontractorsWork EnvironmentThe Director of Construction & Facilities works in an office and in the field. The Director uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. Job sites can be noisy and dangerous which will require the Director wear appropriate PPE.When visiting restaurants, the employee will be exposed to distracting noises and sound levels from cooktops, high temperatures from fryers and grills, sharp utensils and equipment, wet flooring, and cold temperatures when dealing with walk-in coolers/freezers. Restaurant kitchens are often small spaces; they may work near others while maintaining safety protocols.Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee will frequently be required to use repetitive hand motion, handle, or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 40 pounds. When visiting restaurants, the Director could be required to stand/sit/walk for long periods, with frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, balancing, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, reaching, crawling, twisting, eye-hand coordination, and neck movements.TravelTravel as needed for project oversight.Education/ExperienceBachelor’s degree in construction management, Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field preferred7+ years of experience in construction and facilities management, preferably within the restaurant or retail industryProven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneouslyStrong leadership and communication skillsBudget management and vendor negotiation experienceKnowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations, and safety standardsAbility to travel as needed for project oversightAdditional Eligibility QualificationsN/AOther Duties/Additional InformationThis job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the employees assigned to this position.
