Chief Human Resources Officer - DMC Adult Central MICHIGAN GROUP - Detroit Market Market Summary The Detroit Medical Center is one of the largest academic medical centers in the United States, with a long history of medical education. DMC sponsors 80 programs, with 72 accredited by the ACGME and trains over 1000 physicians each year. Academic affiliations include Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Meharry Medical College and Wayne State University School of Medicine. DMC teaches and trains at its hospitals in Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Pathology, Pediatrics, Radiology and more. The Chief Human Resources Officer will have direct oversight of the following hospitals: DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center. The hospital hosts major emergency and specialty programs, including a busy emergency department, the state/'s oldest and largest Level I Burn Center, a hyperbaric oxygen program, a primary stroke center, and other clinical programs. DMC Harper-Hutzel Hospital is known for its clinical expertise, Centers of Excellence in neurosciences, bariatric surgery, vascular services, cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention, heart failure, fertility and obstetrics research, and women/'s health services. Harper-Hutzel maintains a long history focused on women/'s health and research and education. Position Summary The Hospital Chief Human Resources Officer serves the hospital and market leadership team as a strategic advisor on HR issues. The CHRO provides high-quality consultancy on strategic and operational HR matters, leads escalation and resolution of employee relations, and serves as a key liaison to ensure HR services are delivered effectively. The CHRO is accountable for attracting, developing and retaining key talent and for governance of HR processes, systems, and policies across the group and hospitals. Functional Expectations & Requirements Consults with business leaders on capability gaps, talent needs, compensation, organization effectiveness and development requirements. Partners with Hospital Operations CHRO and Tenet CoEs to identify and implement strategic solutions; ensures SLA and KPI targets are met. Partners with external HR groups/societies to stay current on industry trends and best practices. Partners with senior HR leaders to evolve the HR service delivery model. Essential Functions Of The Role Acts as a point of contact for all HR related services and solutions. Participates in strategic meetings and translates business strategies into HR initiatives. Manages labor and productivity initiatives to deliver cost improvements in overtime, premium labor, headcount efficiency and contract labor. Ensures acquisition, development and performance of talent and partners with HR service delivery to meet sourcing, staffing and onboarding needs. Develops direct reports and broader HR team, supporting their development and career progression. Drives data analytics to design innovative HR solutions aligned with business needs. Deploys processes and solutions that drive business strategy and oversees service delivery against SLAs. Provides coaching to managers to analyze and address organizational needs. Drives simplification and efficiency, improving organizational effectiveness. Builds internal capability and coaches leaders on talent and engagement strategies. Leads culture change aligned with business vision and communicates effectively to drive change. Uses external networks to inform market trends and best practices. Oversees HR work intake and contracting to enable priorities at enterprise and unit levels. Other duties as assigned. Promotes loyalty, trust, and engagement through advocacy and recognition programs. Uses critical thinking and data to support positions and balanced decision making. Demonstrates business acumen in managing priorities and resource allocation. Develop Organizational Talent Participates in workforce planning and develops programs for future workforce needs, including diversity and inclusion. Leads talent management strategies, recruitment/retention and succession planning. Oversees pre-boarding, onboarding, orientation and assimilation processes. Leads goal setting and performance reviews; ensures training needs are identified and addressed. Coaches HR staff and leaders. Aligns the Organization Ensures business plans align with people plans and HR workforce strategy. Implements cost reduction strategies for the workforce without compromising engagement and recruitment. Provides a global perspective and manages competing priorities with accountability. Responds to corporate and regional leadership in a timely manner. Optimize Execution Ensures timely administration of policies and legal mandates and communicates changes clearly. Leads HR in acquisitions/divestitures, manpower planning, benefits, on-boarding/off-boarding and RIFs as required. Completes and communicates investigation results promptly; collaborates on compensation/benefit policies. Leads internal/external audits in coordination with legal and compliance. Drive Organizational Success Drives employee engagement initiatives and action plans through focus groups and development programs. Improves HR program delivery and processes for operational effectiveness. Articulates HR policy and defends organizational positions while communicating changes. Collaborates with senior leaders on cross-functional programs and incentives. Leads retention initiatives and People Pillar programs. Candidate Experience, Attributes And Education Requirements At least 10 years of HR leadership experience across varying sizes and models. Experience partnering with business leaders to design and implement HR strategies. Ability to manage and develop senior HR leadership and capability. Experience in organization design, restructuring and strategic workforce planning. Proven record of organizational change involving operating model transformations, mergers or acquisitions. Expertise in organizational culture and employee engagement strategies. Strong generalist HR capabilities across talent management, acquisition, employee relations, compensation, performance management and development. Education/Certifications Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or related field required. Master’s degree in HR or related field preferred.
