OverviewWhat Legal Management contributes to Cardinal HealthLegal provides the company with strategic, proactive, practical and cost-effective legal advice and services to protect the organization/'s assets, operations and image. This function provides legal counsel related to commercial, corporate securities, intellectual property, labor and employment, and regulatory law, among other areas. This function also litigates all company legal matters, manages outside counsel and manages legal operations. Legal Management provides strategic oversight, leadership and direction within the Legal function.Job SummaryCardinal Health is seeking a driven and skilled attorney with expertise in healthcare regulatory compliance, including third party billing and reimbursement. The Assistant General Counsel – At-Home Solutions will be responsible for providing exceptional legal advice and guidance to Cardinal Health’s At-Home Solutions (“AHS”) business clients, a leading home healthcare medical supplies provider serving people with chronic and serious health conditions in the United States. The AHS business unit is comprised of four complementary business units: Edgepark Medical Supplies; Advanced Diabetes Supply Group; Cardinal Health at-Home; Velocare.Candidates should be adaptable, team-oriented, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced setting with oversight from the Vice President, Legal. This role will work closely with various cross-functional colleagues across the AHS order entry and revenue cycle management team, Compliance, the Enterprise Privacy Office, and other internal teams to identify and address potential issues and risks and help Cardinal Health comply with the evolving laws and regulations applicable to the AHS business.ResponsibilitiesProvide legal guidance on various healthcare laws, regulations, and subregulatory guidance, including, but not limited to, laws and regulations relating to third party payor billing and reimbursement as well as other laws and regulations applicable to durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) and pharmacies.Advise on payor agreements and offer legal advice on business payor relations and contracting strategies and payor and reimbursement disputes to mitigate legal risks.Maintain familiarity with laws that affect client areas to issue spot and provide basic counseling, including those relevant to sales and marketing of products to patients and prescribers and by federal and state government programs (e.g., fraud and abuse – Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Civil Monetary Penalties Law, Stark, Beneficiary Inducement Statutes), FDA regulation (Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act), and privacy (HIPAA).Draft, negotiate and review a wide range of agreements, including complex matters relating to manufacturer supply agreements and co-marketing arrangements.Advise and ensure that internal clients receive sound, practical and timely legal advice on a wide variety of legal matters related to the operation of a commercial business that markets to healthcare professionals.Assist in the creation of new template agreements, playbooks and training to support efficient contracting processes for various business functions.Develop and conduct legal training for business clients.Proactively develop and remain up-to-date on healthcare regulatory matters impacting the business, including current regulations, cases, trends and best practices.QualificationsJ.D. required; record of high academic achievement in the undergraduate level and in law school preferredActive license to practice law in any state requiredA minimum of 10 years of experience in related field, preferred in a large complex organization or law firmExtensive knowledge of healthcare law and regulation, in particular billing and reimbursementStrong relationship-building and collaboration skillsSolution and results oriented, with the ability to prioritize and deliver key initiativesAbility to assess legal, practical and business risks quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment, and make sound judgments under tight deadlinesBe able to find practical and creative solutions and provide concise and business-focused legal adviceHave excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; andEnthusiasm and self-starter qualities, enabling management of responsibilities with an appropriate sense of urgency; the ability to function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environmentWhat is expected of you and others at this levelProvides leadership to managers and experienced professional staff; may also manage front line supervisorsManages an organizational budgetDevelops and implements policies and procedures to achieve organizational goalsAssists in the development of functional strategyDecisions have an extended impact on work processes, outcomes, and customersInteracts with internal and/or external leaders, including senior managementPersuades others into agreement in sensitive situations while maintaining positive relationshipsCompensation and BenefitsAnticipated salary range: $132,700 - $204,000Bonus eligible: YesBenefits: Cardinal Health offers a wide variety of benefits and programs to support health and well-being, including medical, dental and vision coverage; paid time off; HSA; 401k; access to wages before pay day with myFlexPay; FSAs; short- and long-term disability coverage; work-life resources; paid parental leave; healthy lifestyle programsApplication window: Anticipated to close 8/29/25.
