OverviewA global biotechnology company is seeking a Head of Global Payroll to lead payroll operations for its expanding international workforce. This role is responsible for shaping and executing payroll strategy, ensuring compliance, scalability, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and a strong understanding of U.S. and international payroll practices. The organization fosters a collaborative, growth-oriented culture with opportunities for impact, innovation, and career development.Location: Carlsbad, CA - Hybrid (2 days on-site, 3 days remote)Compensation: $150-175kKey ResponsibilitiesDefine and implement the global payroll strategy, aligning operations with business goals.Establish governance standards for process design, compliance, technology, and data accuracy.Evaluate and implement payroll systems and tools to support growth and automation.Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing payroll team.Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to ensure payroll processes scale with company expansion.Oversee timely, accurate, and compliant payroll across multiple jurisdictions.Strengthen internal controls and coordinate with auditors on payroll-related reviews.Manage payroll journal entries, tax filings, year-end reporting, and GL reconciliations.Monitor global regulatory changes and update policies accordingly.Act as the payroll subject matter expert, providing guidance across the organization.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, HR Administration, or related field.12+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 5 years leading teams and overseeing payroll for 1,000+ employees.Expertise in payroll principles, compliance, taxation rules, garnishments, benefit deductions, and global payroll operations.Proficiency with large-scale payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday) and HRIS/timekeeping integrations.Experience with SOX compliance, internal audits, and data privacy laws.Strong knowledge of U.S. and international labor laws, payroll accounting, and GAAP principles.Proven ability to implement new technology and process improvements, including automation.Familiarity with equity administration platforms such as Morgan Stanley Equity Edge Online (preferred).Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and influencing skills with the ability to deliver pragmatic solutions in complex environments.Seniority levelDirectorEmployment typeFull-timeJob functionAccounting/AuditingIndustriesBiotechnology Research and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing #J-18808-Ljbffr
