Overview HDR is seeking a Site Civil Engineer (PE) for the Building Engineering Services Business Group in Chicago, Illinois. The team designs facility-related sites for the Data Center market with future opportunities across Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Municipal, Civic, Industrial, and Sports & Recreation sectors. The role involves coordinating with a multidiscipline design team through planning, construction documents, and construction administration. Responsibilities Design and produce plan sets, details, specifications, and cost estimates for site layouts, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and related civil activities. Perform site development calculations (stormwater pond sizing, culvert and pipe capacity analysis, hydrology calculations, etc.). Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed; serve as Engineer of Record on non-complex projects. Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed. Author technically sound, well-organized reports. Contribute to civil engineering scope of work and budgets for proposals. Coordinate with internal and external resources for due diligence research and documentation. Understand and meet jurisdictional requirements; coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction and submittal requirements. Transition concept plans through schematic and construction design processes. Coordinate with subconsultants for support and design services. Attend and contribute to client meetings; use engineering judgement and be self-directed. Manage time and multiple tasks/projects; communicate effectively with managers and team members. Pursue efficiencies and mentor junior staff; advocate for HDR, BES, and the Site Civil team. Perform other tasks that support HDR’s mission and BES. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications A minimum of 3 years of experience in general civil engineering. Proficient with CAD civil engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; familiarity with specialty platforms as required (e.g., OpenFlows). Required Qualifications Professional Engineering license recognized in the position location (e.g., PE or P.Eng). Demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office; strong verbal and written communication skills. Active participation in HDR’s employee-owned culture is essential. What We Believe HDR is our company.
