OverviewThe COO will facilitate, direct, and coordinate operational activities and programs relative to the day-to-day hospital operations of the medical center through the delivery of cost effective and quality services. This includes oversight of Pharmacy, support services, resource stewardship/utilization management, workplace safety, and Performance Improvement with a close collaboration with Patient Care Services to impact operational and financial imperatives. Working closely with TPMG and Labor leadership, the COO is responsible for building effective partnerships and collaborative relationships in the medical center and service area. The COO assures implementation of system-wide and regional strategic initiatives and policies.Note: The preferred candidate will be a bright, seasoned and highly qualified executive whose experience includes accomplishing strategic and operational change in a complex environment. The ideal candidate’s management style will exhibit confidence in operational skill set, integrity, collaboration, flexibility and a result-orientation.Essential ResponsibilitiesManages the day-to-day operations in the hospital. Assume responsibility for hospital administration in the absence of the SVP Area Manager.Provide leadership in building a high performing team and organization that achieves both the mission and financial/operational objectives of KP.Provide strategic leadership in bringing together diverse constituencies to articulate and implement a shared vision for the medical center and service area. Create a culture predicated on growing trust amongst and between stakeholders. Maintain open channels of communication and foster information sharing.Develop and execute key strategies differentiating KP from competitors in service and clinical excellence.Promote open, effective, and ongoing communication and the sharing of information among and between KP employees, physician leadership and medical staff.Create a culture that is decisive, action-oriented, flexible, and poised to seize opportunities to advance quality, service and performance. Ensure integration of quality, service and efficiency improvements into day-to-day operations.Establish clearly defined goals and objectives and ensure follow through in a timely manner. Provide leadership in mentoring and developing direct reports and staff in a manner that emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and sharing of information, resources, and best practices among stakeholders across the organization.Achieve/exceed performance expectations throughout the hospital’s operations.Establish an environment that supports caregivers and enhances growth, communication, and job satisfaction. With HR, direct the implementation of integrated human resources strategies to ensure quality results in recruitment, retention and development of key human resources.Manage operating and capital budgets of areas of responsibility. Aggressively mitigate variances to budget. Make sound decisions on best use of resources in support of regional priorities and strategies. Provide leadership and guidance through change, integrating different viewpoints and building ownership.Support successful operational implementation of new technology platforms, new systems, and new processes.Promote and operationalize the Labor-Management Partnership. Achieve key LMP initiatives and demonstrate LMP behaviors throughout the hospital. Ensure Labor participation in appropriate decision-making forums and committees.Model and reinforce ethical behavior in self and others in accordance with Kaiser Permanente’s Code of Conduct, maintaining privacy and confidentiality, protecting organizational assets, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable laws, accreditation, licensure requirements, and policies.ExperienceBasic QualificationsFive (5) years of hospital operations experience, with breadth in healthcare leadership roles.EducationMaster degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related fieldLicense, Certification, RegistrationN/AAdditional RequirementsHas a strong performance orientation and operational and strategic focus and execution.
