Job SummaryThe Core Tax Services ("CTS") Senior Manager - ASC740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying methods of complying with tax regulations, and serving as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 issues. The Senior Manager applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues, communicates risks and potential changes in tax policy, and may contribute to marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise. The role may also involve providing written tax advice to clients.Job DutiesTax ComplianceEnsures client compliance with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; ensures self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").Conducts top‑level review of tax return and issues resolution with the client, involving specialists where municates issues identified in tax accrual reviews to the client and Assurance teams.Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures, including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement progress and time versus budget with assistance of Senior, timely billing (including out-of-scope activity) and A/R collection.Manages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project and provides timely advice to clients.ResearchIdentifies when research is needed; frames issues clearly and reports analysis concisely.Identifies complex issues for engagement team research and provides an effective research methodology; trains managers/staff on research skills and ASC 740 framing; involves firm specialists as appropriate.ASC 740 (fka FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax AccrualsApplies Firm policies, standards, and TQM regarding ASC 740; explains components of income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client and explains ASC 740 municates with Assurance to plan tax accrual reviews (budget, scope, delivery dates); reviews tax provisions with in‑depth ASC 740 knowledge and reviews prepared workpapers; utilizes STS as needed.Tax ConsultingAssists in developing and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits, including reducing current and future taxes; considers CTS and STS consulting applicability for each client.Develops and implements work plans to incorporate STS assistance on ongoing projects; serves as a technical resource; ensures client service teams comply with firm policy regarding Written Tax Advice (WTA) and exam support; frames projects for effective delegation to seniors and associates.Tax SpecializationDevelops in‑depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more tax areas (e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, R&D, etc.).May organize internal CPE training and may train/mentor managers, seniors, and associates on ASC 740.Strategy DevelopmentProposes new or improved ideas to improve clients’, Firm’s, or Firm personnel positions (e.g., reducing taxes or expenses, or providing non‑tax benefits).Makes suggestions to improve previous work products; may lead marketing campaigns; presents complex strategies to clients and prospects; collaborates with National Tax and STS to deliver high‑quality deliverables on ASC 740.Other dutiesOther duties as required.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises associates and senior associates on all projects; reviews their work and provides feedback.Trains associates and seniors on current software tools; acts as a Career Advisor; schedules and manages workload; provides verbal and written performance feedback.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducationBachelors degree in Accounting or Taxation, requiredMasters degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferredExperienceEight (8) or more years of prior experience, requiredExperience in preparing and auditing ASC740 computations for privately held and publicly traded clients, requiredPrior supervisory experience, requiredMultinational client experience, preferredLicense/CertificationsCPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Enrolled Agent (or equivalent), requiredSoftwareExperience with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat, preferredExperience with tax research databases (e.g., BNA, RIA) and tax compliance software (GoFileRoom, GoSystem RS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable), preferredLanguageN/AOther Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesSuperior verbal and written communication skillsAbility to delegate effectivelyStrong analytical, research, and decision‑making skillsTeamwork and leadership to develop and manage a tax professional teamAbility to compose written tax advice and maintain client relationshipsExecutive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutionsIndividual salaries offered are determined after considering qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.California Range: $146,000 - $200,000Colorado Range: $120,000 - $180,000Illinois Range: $140,000 - $190,000Maryland Range: $150,000 - $180,000Massachusetts Range: $150,000 - $206,000Minnesota Range: $130,000 - $190,000New Jersey Range: $155,000 - $200,000NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $190,000 - $225,000Washington Range: $150,000 - $190,000Washington DC Range: $162,000 - $190,000 #J-18808-Ljbffr
