Departmental overview and online program context are provided by Berkeley Public Health (BPH): a professional school with six academic divisions and nearly 30 research centers and programs, committed to social justice and health equity. BPH Online offers an MPH degree remotely for working professionals. Position Summary Involves designing instructional content for self-paced online courses, creating interactive media content, and building content modules in various learning systems and platforms using a variety of software applications in support of academic and professional programs. Responsibilities Applies advanced instructional design skills to articulate course design for graduate and post-graduate public health courses, including specialized quantitative subjects. Crafts learning objectives and outcomes, integrates supportive learning activities and assessments tailored to course demands. Recommends technologies and pedagogical strategies grounded in data analysis to enhance student engagement in large online self-paced courses. Supports faculty and staff in creating multimedia content, including interactive activities, video, or audio components, and oversees production of course content on schedule. Contributes to analytical testing of content and tools to meet ADA requirements, researches and documents copyright for embedded media and other content. Collaborates with instructional designers, technology staff, faculty, and teaching assistants with diplomacy and tact in communications. Designs training that supports students in quantitative courses in a diverse environment and across organizational levels. Engages in professional development to stay current with trends in instructional design and online education; participates in workshops and trainings. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Thorough knowledge of functional area and awareness of how work in one course impacts others. Analytical skills to conduct analysis, develop recommendations, and solve problems. Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; effective collaboration and negotiation abilities. Ability to learn organization policies and procedures related to online course development. Knowledge of instructional design principles, learning outcomes, assessment design, and varied instructional approaches. Knowledge of tools and platforms for delivering engaging, media-rich online learning content and trends in educational technology. Knowledge of relevant business software systems and applying adult learning theories. Knowledge of e-learning strategies and course development processes and technologies. Advanced planning, resourcing, and monitoring of design life cycles for learning solutions. Ability to conduct job and task analyses in instructional design contexts. Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in public health, educational technology, instructional design, or equivalent experience. Under California law, UC Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The posted range reflects factors such as experience, skills, knowledge, and organizational needs. Salary offers are based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $89,250.00 - $95,000.00. This is a 1-year, full-time (40 hours/week), contract appointment eligible for UC benefits with the possibility of extension. This is an exempt, monthly-paid position.
