This role is with HDR's Building Engineering Services Business Group in Chicago, IL, focusing on site civil design for the Data Center market, with future opportunities in Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Municipal, Civic, Industrial, and Sports & Recreation sectors. The project work spans planning, development of construction documents, and construction administration within a multidisciplinary team.Experience in land development and the design of building-related site civil functions (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control) is required. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, collaborative, and possess strong leadership skills with initiative to deliver high-quality, technically sound designs.ResponsibilitiesDesign and produce plan sets, details, specifications, and cost estimates for a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and related civil engineering activitiesPerform site development calculations (stormwater pond sizing, culvert and pipe capacity analysis, hydrology calculations, etc.)Serve as Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed; act as Engineer of Record on non-complex projectsSupervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as neededAuthor technically sound, well-organized reportsContribute to civil engineering scope of work and budgets for proposalsCoordinate with internal and external resources to complete due diligence research and documentationUnderstand and meet Jurisdictional requirements; coordinate with the Authority Having Jurisdiction for design and submittal requirementsTransition concept plans through schematic and construction design processesCoordinate with subconsultants for support and design servicesAttend and contribute to client meetingsUse engineering judgment to determine best course of action; be independent in pursuing information and solutionsManage time and organization of multiple tasks/projectsCommunicate effectively with managers and team membersPursue efficiencies within work and operationsMentor junior staff and delegate appropriate tasksBe an advocate for HDR, the BES Business Group, and the Site Civil teamPerform other tasks that support HDR and the BES Business GroupQualificationsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degreePrevious experience in general civil engineeringProfessional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license recognized by the licensing board for the position locationDemonstrated leadership and communication skillsProficient with Microsoft Office; good verbal and written communication skillsCommitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culturePreferred QualificationsA minimum of 3 years of experience in general civil engineeringProficient with CAD civil software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; familiarity with OpenFlows or similar platforms as requiredWhat We Believe and Our CommitmentHDR is our company. The compensation range for this role depends on skills, experience, education, and location.
