OverviewStaff Legal Liability Trial Attorney – Boston, MA. Zurich is seeking a Liability Trial Attorney to represent the commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially stable commercial insurance carrier, by preparing and trying moderate complexity General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.The selected candidate will perform duties encompassing all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, preparing for and aggressively handling hearings and trials, and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate. The successful candidate must have strong computer skills and be able to handle remote team-based work which requires the use of video conferencing, task assignments and other computer-based systems.ResponsibilitiesRepresent commercial insureds in General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases, from investigation through trial and post-trial activities.Perform initial investigation, legal analysis and advice; prepare and file pleadings and documents; conduct legal research.Prepare for and conduct pre-trial discovery, hearings and trials; coordinate with clients, experts and defense teams as needed.Work independently and with limited supervision; manage case strategy, budgets and deadlines.Collaborate with remote teams through video conferencing and other computer-based systems.Basic QualificationsJuris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Litigation areaMember in good standing of the Massachusetts State BarExperience with Microsoft Office and AdobeExperience working with Lexis or WestlawKnowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environmentKnowledge of the law and procedurePreferred QualificationsMember of the Rhode Island and/or New Hampshire State Bar AssociationsExperience with general commercial litigationWell organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, and ability to work independently as well as within a teamDemonstrates effective negotiating skillsAbility to budget costs and calculate exposure for clientsUnderstands the staff counsel function and role in overall businessExperience with working in a paperless environmentExperience in a remote working environmentCompensation & BenefitsZurich notes that compensation is influenced by location, role, skill set and experience. A nationwide salary range is provided with potential incentives; geographic adjustments may apply.
