CAPITAL PLANNING CONSULTANTFull-TimeBoston, MAThe OpportunityAs a Capital Planning Consultant, you will work in a fast paced, innovative and collaborative environment, working within a team that drives regulatory capital, financing and liquidity strategies to maximize MassMutual’s policyowner value. This role will report directly to the Capital Planning Lead within MassMutual’s Treasury Organization.The Capital Planning Consultant will have the opportunity to:Contribute to analysis that will be used for strategic capital allocation decisions within Capital Committee meetings and other strategic discussionsEnhance modeling tools and reporting capabilities for capital forecasts and return on capital metricsCollaborate across multiple teams including Financial Planning & Analysis, Corporate Actuarial, Enterprise Risk Management, Pricing and Investment Management to ensure consistency of assumptions and modeling methodologiesProactively focus on self-development (e.g. research of capital markets, capital frameworks, product impacts, market developments, MassMutual businesses, value creation metrics, etc.)The TeamThe Capital Planning Consultant is a member of the Balance Sheet Management team within the Treasury organization. This role will work with a dynamic team of individuals with diverse backgrounds that are focused on understanding actual and projected trends of regulatory capital, operating liquidity, financial flexibility and earnings levels so that they may develop strategies to improve financial performance to support maximizing value.The ImpactYour work will contribute toward the evaluation of strategic decisions made to optimize allocation of capital. You will accomplish that by the responsibilities listed below:Strategic Capital Modeling:Lead bi-annual Return on Capital analysis, including generating long term view of STAT earnings based on life cycle earnings expectationsAssist in producing quarterly statutory earnings power and regulatory capital projections and scenarios (both short and long-term range), including detailed analytics to support strategic decision makingValidation of Assumptions and Modeling Methodology:Ensure that our models are maintained, well-documented and compliant with enterprise model governance policiesEnsure clear documentation of assumptions and methodology; facilitate peer review processGain a deep understanding of the unit economics of each product, both before and after reinsurance, to ensure appropriately modeledEnsure key forecast driver assumptions and modeling methodologies are developed in collaboration with other Corporate Finance and Enterprise projections (e.g. Valuation, Financial Planning & Analysis, Pricing teams)Review and Communication of Results:Leverage advanced analytics (in-force analysis, experience studies, external market data), scenario analysis and strong attribution analysis to explain forecast resultsReview P&L assumption elements for assessing overall reasonableness of forecasts and ROC resultsUse business acumen and communication skills to draft and contribute to commentary which enables readers to quickly understand key results, implications and driversSupport Long-Term Transformation of Capital Projections:Support long-term goal to transition capital projections to Anaplan rather than Excel for greater efficiencyCollaborate with Enterprise Risk Management to support future alignment of modelling and testing methodologies and assumptions between base and risk appetite scenariosThe Minimum QualificationsBS in accounting, finance, actuarial science or related field7+ years of modeling experience in valuation, pricing, asset modeling, financial planning, and/or in financial risk managementThe Ideal QualificationsIn-depth knowledge of Statutory accounting and Capital frameworksInsurance product pricing and modeling experienceCritical thinking and problem solvingExperience collaborating across multiple teamsDetail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skillsOrganized, planful and continuous improvement mindsetIntellectual curiosity to continue learning and adding breadth and depth to understandingAbility to seek guidance and learn new skills from peersWhat to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the TeamRegular meetings with the Balance Sheet Management and broader Treasury teamsFocused one-on-one meetings with your managerAccess to a collaborative network within the team with connected objectivesNetworking opportunities including access to Asian, Hispanic/Latinx, African American, women, LGBTQ, veteran and disability-focused Business Resource GroupsAccess to learning content on Degreed and other informational platformsYour ethics and integrity will be valued by a company with a strong and stable ethical business with industry leading pay and benefitsMassMutual is an equal employment opportunity employer.
