Tax Senior Manager, Private Client Services Private Client Services (PCS) at BDO is a boutique practice within our firm, serving high net-worth individuals, their families, family offices, C-Suite executives, athletes, entertainers, and others with complex tax and financial structures. The PCS practice covers estate, income, gift, and trust tax consulting and compliance; charitable giving and philanthropic foundations; executive compensation; and cash-flow, retirement, and life insurance planning. Job Summary A Tax Senior Manager in Private Client Services utilizes their education, professional experience, and leadership, time management, technical, business development, and people skills to provide tax compliance and consulting services to our high net-worth clients. Job Duties Manages tax and consulting engagements and identifies client needs, tax planning opportunities, and consulting opportunities. Provides executive presence and acts as the primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions. Reviews complex individual, trust, estate, S-Corp, foundation, partnership, and gift tax returns; provides feedback to preparers. Directs communication with government agencies for highly complex matters. Identifies technical issues, conducts advanced tax research, and develops sound recommendations for PCS leadership, clients, and advisors. Expands knowledge through client engagements and current tax developments. Prioritizes and reviews work to keep engagements on track. Utilizes analytical, research, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to assist with client needs. Assists with PCS/firm contributions including billing, recruiting, and attendance in CPE activities and training. Builds and maintains relationships with BDO professionals and external sources. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects. Reviews work prepared by associates and provides review comments. Trains associates and seniors on current software tools. Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and seniors. Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates. Provides verbal and written performance feedback. Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred. Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred. Experience Seven (7) or more years of experience in accounting, finance, or law required. Experience in private client service area required. Prior supervisory experience required. Public accounting experience preferred. License/Certifications CPA, EA, attorney (admitted in U.S. jurisdiction), or equivalent required. Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred. Software Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat; required. Experience with tax compliance software (GoSystems, BNA Tax Planner, GoFileRoom, SurePrep) preferred. Experience with tax research tools (BNA Portfolio, CCH IntelliConnect, Checkpoint, LexisNexis) preferred. Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Initiative: manages own career and technical development; proactively pursues projects and learning to fill gaps. Communication: clear verbal and written communication with clients and advisors; maintains ongoing client relationships. Leadership: monitors KPIs, follows up on assignments, and ensures internal deadlines are met. Technical Skills: serves as internal resource and guides other practices on technical matters; collaborates with tax authorities as needed. Business Development: builds network with financial decision-makers and referral sources; actively networks beyond the firm. People Development: supervises, trains, and mentors employees; provides holistic feedback and career coaching. Individual salaries offered to a candidate are determined after considering qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Salary ranges (illustrative, varies by location): California $146,000-$200,000; Colorado $120,000-$185,000; Illinois $140,000-$190,000; Maryland $150,000-$180,000; Massachusetts $150,000-$206,000; Minnesota $130,000-$190,000; New Jersey $155,000-$200,000; NYC/Long Island/Westchester $190,000-$225,000; Washington $150,000-$200,000; Washington DC $162,000-$190,000.
