Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. Position Description The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2026. The department has a strong, proven reputation for educating and training women of African descent to excel in STEM fields. We seek an outstanding teacher/scholar dedicated to excellence in the area of cellular and molecular biology. An ideal candidate would demonstrate a history of innovative research and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Applicants are also expected to actively pursue an independently-funded research program and engage students in scholarly activity. The successful candidate will also be able to teach undergraduate introductory courses in cellular and/or molecular biology as well as contribute to curriculum development efforts by creating or redeveloping an advanced biology elective course related to their area of expertise. The position also requires academic advising, mentoring research students, and providing service within the Department and College communities. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with women and underrepresented minority students through teaching, mentoring, and research are especially encouraged to apply. This position is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding. Qualifications Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related area.
