Position Type: Early ChildhoodDate Posted: 9/4/2025Location: Stepanski Early Childhood CenterDistrict: Waterford School DistrictPosition: Assistant Teacher - Head Start Program (10 month position) Location: Stepanski Early Childhood Center Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma with a signed compliance plan to complete the CDA or Associates Degree within two years of hire Preschool aged child classroom or child care experience Possess excellent organizational skills Ability to interact positively with school/community and to work with limited supervision Ability to interact appropriately with children Ability to follow all child care center licensing requirements as defined by the State of Michigan Communicates effectively in written and verbal form Be capable of bending, lifting, and overhead work as well as physically able to stand two (2) or more hours at a time Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Additional Preferred Qualifications: Associates Degree or CDA in Early Childhood Trained in and experience using the High-Scope preschool curriculum and High-Scope, COR assessment Essential Functions: Engages with children during all aspects of the school day Promotes curiosity and discovery (indoors and outdoors) by encouraging children to become actively engaged with classroom equipment and materials Supports children's prosocial development by reflecting respect, kindness and compassion for others Facilitates a small group daily, and assumes responsibility for large group activities at least weekly Assists in the preparation and maintenance of program materials and supplies Follows all school and licensing procedures to safeguard health and safety of the children, including hand washing, appropriate sanitary measures, playground safety rules, and rules regarding the use of supplies and equipment Remains knowledgeable about information forms and emergency procedures; checks identification of unknown persons picking up children from the program Greets parents and builds a rapport with them offering positive feedback about children when appropriate Is aware of the number of children in attendance at all times and counts them regularly to insure they are accounted for Is knowledgeable of fire, tornado, or other emergency procedures Informs the Lead Teacher of any safety issues or behavioral issues including inappropriate conduct or activity of children Assumes responsibility of child licensing records Accompanies the Lead Teacher on two home visits and two parent-teacher conferences for each Head Start family per year Implements the Head Start Program as defined by the Federal Government. Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Head Start Teacher or school principal Reports To: School Principal Workday/Week: Monday - Friday *Currently, Fridays and all other non-student work hours shall be reserved for staff meetings, professional development, lesson planning, assessment recording and other duties as assigned by the Building Principal; 30-minute duty-free lunch break.
