Mechanical Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description Join a dynamic team to design and develop precision tooling and fixturing for alignment and assembly stations. You will create fabrication-ready mechanical drawings and documentation, and collaborate with suppliers and machine shops to source components and manage builds. Support product-level mechanical design and integration alongside optics and electronics teams, and contribute to semi-automated station design and lab equipment setup. Responsibilities + Design and develop precision tooling and fixturing for alignment and assembly stations. + Create fabrication-ready mechanical drawings and documentation. + Collaborate with suppliers and machine shops to source components and manage builds. + Support product-level mechanical design and integration alongside optics and electronics teams. + Set up and manage CAD environment, with a preference for SolidWorks; Fusion 360 is acceptable. + Contribute to semi-automated station design and lab equipment setup. + Navigate multiple concurrent projects with organization and follow-through. Essential Skills + SolidWorks or Fusion 360 experience, particularly in setting up software and design environments. + Experience in mechanical design and new product development. + Tooling and fixture design expertise, especially in semi-automated station design. + 2-3 years of hands-on mechanical design experience. + Strong CAD skills and familiarity with design for fabrication. + Experience with precision machining, EDM, and prototype tooling with accuracy requirements of 2-4 mil. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (GED plus 5-8 years in relevant roles). + Start-up experience is highly desirable. + Comfortable in fast-paced, startup environments with shifting priorities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of La Jolla, California. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $49.00/hr.
