Instructional Assistant, Veteran and Military Connected ServicesDepartment: Veteran and Military ConnectedLocation: Metropolitan Campus Reports To: CW Director, Veterans/Military Connected Services Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req5806 Employment Type: Part-Time Support Staff Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: Mostly standard college operating hours, with some evenings and weekend hours possibleNumber of Openings: 1 Job Description: SUMMARYSupports the College-Wide Director,Veterans and Military Connected Services and the Veteran Center ProgramManagers with grant initiatives. Provides academic support toveteran and military connected students utilizing assessment, tutoring and instruction. Works directly with students assisting in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings. Supports the Program's objectives and initiatives as directed.ESSENTIALFUNCTIONSFacilitates one-on-one, small group or classroom tutoring sessionsAdministers, scores, assesses and evaluates educational and career assessments to identify participants' strengths and weaknesses in subjects.Diagnoses student tutorial needsAssess content of the College's high-risk courses and develop and teach content-based curriculum to drive student successDevelops and presents supplemental curricula, materials and instruction for non-credit skills coursesInstructs and monitors participants use of math computer programs and graphing 34 Cuyahoga Community College Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Services calculatorAssists in the development of educational action plansConducts educational workshops on major subject study-skillsAssists in tracking and maintaining a computerized records database of individual student progress, including academic achievement, enrollment retention, graduation and transferPerforms other duties as assignedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAININGBachelor's Degree in Math, English, Science or related fieldSignificant related experience may substitute for educationMinimum of two years of academic experience working directly with academically under-prepared studentsExperience working with veteran or military connected communityDemonstrated previous success in motivating and encouraging studentsExcellent interpersonal and verbal communication skillsExperience in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and ExcelKNOWLEDGE,SKILLS and ABILITIESPossess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse populationAbility to travel between College campuses to perform dutiesAbility to determine needs of students and identify solutionsAbility to be creative and exercise initiativeAbility to foster a team environment and work collaborativelyPossess working knowledge of fundamental tutoring/instructing concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focusDemonstrated knowledge of exemplary instructional methods and practicesDemonstrated commitment to providing exemplary customer serviceDemonstrated experience in implementing supplemental instruction, curriculum development and program evaluationPossess intermediate-level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent softwareDemonstrated knowledge of utilizing math computer programs and graphing calculatorsAbility to organize work and set priorities within a general structurePossess strong organizational and time-management skillsPossess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsPERFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAININGVeterans encouraged to applyMaster's degree in Math, English, Science or related fieldDemonstrated experience instructing or teaching othersCOMPETENCIESCRITICAL COMPETENCIESService FocusCommunicationCollaborationVERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIESTime UtilizationAdaptabilityIMPORTANTCOMPETENCIESQuality of WorkContinuous ImprovementPHYSICALDEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS(Thedemands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
