Westminster teachers serve not only as educators but also as mentors and role models who inspire students to become lifelong learners and conscientious citizens.Supervisor: Head of Lower SchoolSupervisory Responsibilities: NonePosition Status: Salaried, Exempt, Part-time, Temporary, As neededHours of Work: Standard work week; typical hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONSThe requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a successful candidate.Bachelor's degree requiredPrior teaching experience or experience working with children preferredDemonstrated enthusiasm for working with children and fostering their growthAbility to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environmentStrong writing, organizational, administrative, and communication skillsFlexibility, adaptability, and a cooperative spiritIn addition to teaching experience, successful candidates demonstrate a love of working with children, an engaging teaching style, the ability to interact well with parents and colleagues, and a willingness to create and promote an inclusive learning environment.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESProvide instruction, manage the classroom environment, and promote student learning in alignment with lesson plans or program objectivesMaintain a supportive and respectful classroom atmosphere that encourages collaboration and critical reflectionDemonstrate subject matter knowledge and the ability to adapt lessons to students' learning needsIncorporate technology effectively into instruction and classroom managementCommunicate and collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and parentsPerform additional duties as assigned to support the Lower School programPerform other duties as assignedPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to become CPR, AED, and First Aid Certified is required.While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
