The Medical Receptionist will report to the Health Center AdministratorAge/Patient Populations Served:Age of Patient Population ServedPediatric (0 - 19 yrs)Adult (19 - 64 yrs)Geriatric (65 yrs & older) Nonage Specific Task (N/A)Population Bariatric Patients: BMI greater than 40, or greater than 35 with weight related comorbidities Patient with exceptional communication needs Patient with developmental delays Patient at the end of life Patient under isolation precautionsAll PopulationsEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Responsible for all front Desk Functions in a Primary Care settingSchedule AppointmentsSchedule specialty and ancillary appointmentsAnswer PhonesComplete Managed Care ReferralsObtain Pre-Certs when neededResponsible for patient registration data entryVerify InsuranceDaily Batching of encounter formsLog referrals in the tracking systemFollow up for reports from specialistsArrange transportation when needed for patientsAssist patients when neededReview patient's charts and encounter forms for completionFile reports, file chartsPerform other duties as assignedPHMC Compliance Responsibilities:Understands and adheres to PHMC compliance standards as they appear in the PHMC Code of Conduct, Whistle Blowers, and Conflict of Interest Policies.Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and PHMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.Comply with HIPAA and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures as they apply to the job.Comply with the Department of Public Health (DPH), The Joint Commission, and other accreditation and regulatory agencies standards.Adhere to all PHMC Policies and Procedures.Knowledge and adherence to Infection Control and Environment of Care Guidelines and Procedures as described in the annual education module.Job Requirements:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Skills:Knowledge of billing procedures and Insurance verificationData EntryKnowledge of medical terminologyFamiliar with Managed Care Plans and Referral ProcessExtensive Organization SkillsMust have a pleasant manner.Ability to manage and complete work assigned by several staffMust be flexibleEXPERIENCE:One to two years of experience in a medical office environmentEDUCATION:High School Diploma or GED equivalentPHYSICAL DEMANDS:Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, sitting under 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel 2/3 of the time, reaching with hands and arms, under 1/3 of the time, stooping, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. The position requires lifting up to 10 lbs. up to 1/3 of the time.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
