Job Title: Mechanical Technician Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Technician to join our team as a 2nd shift battery test technician. The role involves championing safe test setups for battery assemblies and components, ensuring procedures and checks are performed to deliver quality test results on time. The position requires developing and manufacturing special purpose instrumentation, cable and wiring assemblies, and laboratory test equipment related to battery testing. Responsibilities + Champion safe test setup for battery assemblies and related components. + Define and perform procedures and checks to ensure test results are delivered on-time and with quality. + Develop and manufacture special purpose instrumentation, cable and wiring assemblies, laboratory test equipment, and fixtures. + Perform physical duties involving large and heavy high voltage batteries, including movement, shipping, and disposal. + Maintain records on work performed, including data collected or analyzed. + Maintain awareness of Business Plan Deployment goals and objectives, and identify relevant opportunities for improvement. + Develop, implement, and sustain workplace organization practices. + Communicate findings with engineering personnel through verbal or written means. + Recommend revisions to product or component design as needed. + Conduct or assist with Safety and Abuse testing as needed. + Conduct or assist with detailed teardown and analysis of battery cells, modules, and packs. + Conduct or assist with vibration testing, including working above 6 ft and using cranes and rigging to move high voltage properties. + Complete all required training courses, including respirator, cranes/hoist, and Lockout. + Support engineering staff with fabrication work and modifying packs or building fixtures. Essential Skills + Basic mechanical skills. + Hands-on experience with testing and mechanical tasks. + Ability to perform physical duties involving large and heavy high voltage batteries. + Willingness to learn GM systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with battery teardown and rebuild is ideal but not required. + High School Diploma required; degree preferred. + Comfortable working around high voltage with provided internal HV training. Work Environment Work in a non-production, test facility dedicated to new EV battery technology. The facility operates 24/7/365 with automated safety systems, providing exposure to cutting-edge battery technology. The work hours are from 11 AM to 7:30 PM. Dress code is not specified, but adherence to safety protocols is mandatory. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Warren, Michigan. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
