General Counsel - Real Estate Tax Firm (Chesterfield)

Are you a seasoned legal professional with a passion for real estate, litigation, and strategic leadership? We're seeking a General Counsel to lead a captive law firm focused on commercial property tax appeals across multiple U.S. jurisdictions.This is a unique opportunity to head a legal department that partners closely with analysts and appraisers to challenge property valuations and drive meaningful outcomes for commercial clients. You'll also play a key role in expanding legal operations through the development of an Alternative Business Structure (ABS) firm, enabling broader market penetration and jurisdictional reach.What You'll do:Lead and manage a captive law firm handling property tax appeals in eight states.Represent clients in proceedings beyond local boards of equalization, including circuit, district, and superior courts, and state tax commissions.Collaborate with internal departments (appraisal, analytics, operations) to build strong legal strategies.Assist in drafting and negotiating contracts (client, vendor, employment, leases, IT, etc.).Oversee collections, strategic planning, and legal team development.Spearhead the creation and expansion of an ABS law firm to support business growth.What We're Looking For: 15+ years of legal experience, ideally with a background in business and litigation.Licensed in Missouri (additional state licenses preferred).Experience in property tax appeals or eminent domain.Strong leadership and project management skills.Ability to recruit, mentor, and manage a team of fortable working directly with executive leadership and cross-functional teams.Hands-on legal skills including research, writing, and courtroom representation.This role is ideal for a legal leader who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-jurisdictional environment and is ready to shape the future of a growing legal operation.
