Numerous opportunities are offered to employees throughout the year to give back to our community, including paid volunteer hours.About this position: We are looking for a seasoned Construction Estimator to join our team. This person will ensure that accurate bids, in accordance with bidding instructions, are prepared for all assigned projects, reviewed, and submitted to the prospective client within the required timeframe. The goal is to win enough profitable jobs for Oliver Sperry Renovation to meet or exceed our revenue objectives. This position will report to the CFO and the Sales Director. We think you'll succeed in this position if you:Are passionate about the renovation and construction industryAre detail-oriented and strive to have zero errors in your estimates and calculationsCan professionally and confidently correspond with employees, vendors, staff members, and customersEnjoy analyzing project plans and specifications to identify potential risks and opportunities for cost savingsValue integrity, ethics, and accuracy over shortcuts and speedKnow when to ask for help and to take ownership of both successes and shortcomingsAre looking for more than just a job and want a long-term career with a financially stable but growing construction companyNaturally act with a sense of urgency whenever issues ariseIf this describes you, please read on!~~~Essential Functions of the Construction Estimator:Communicates with the client to achieve a clear understanding of the scope of work, identify any special types of construction or special requirements, and identify needs and wants of the clientReviews plans, specifications, schedules, and related documentation to determine material requirements for any assigned estimating jobsConducts field visits before the estimate to visually confirm the job conditions and may meet with architects, engineering firms, and owners in the development of a projectSolicits accurate material estimates from qualified suppliersCreates a final estimated cost figure using the companys accounting/estimate systemReviews all bids before submission for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the contract specificationsMeets with the assigned Project Manager to review all aspects of the job and ensures that a proper hand off occurs between estimating and project managementTracks status of bids and provides the companys owners with weekly status updatesResearches geographic costs and logistical restraints that may impact estimatesEnsures that job requirements and scope of work are written completelyIf a job is awarded, ensures that all necessary paperwork is transmitted to the Project ManagerTracks the number and dollar value of bids quoted and bids awarded quarterlyCompares each projects original cost estimates with what the final completed costs wereKeeps current on the events within the local construction market to keep ahead of the competitionConstantly reviews resource needs with the Operations Manager as well as the companys overall scheduling of current and tentative projectsAssists with writing, updating, and implementing procedures and policies for the companys Estimating DepartmentSecondary Tasks (As Needed):Assists in the training and development of personnel to increase their effectivenessAttends company meetingsWorks with other company EstimatorsHandles other duties or special projects that may be assigned by the Owners~~~Requirements:The ideal candidate is someone who:Has a four year degree or equivalent professional experienceHas five (5)+ years of professional experience as a Commercial Construction EstimatorLives within a 40 minute drive of Tallahassee, Fl or is willing to relocateHas an excellent understanding of construction to determine accurate material take-offs and labor estimatesHas prior experience with financial estimating software, spreadsheets, and MS ExcelHas a valid driver's licenseCan pass both a drug and criminal background checkHas strong attention to detailHas the ability to read, write, and understand English sufficiently to read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and related documentation with an understanding of how each relates to the overall job costsCommunicates professionallyHas a fundamental understanding of math to verify the accuracy of material take-offs~~~Benefits:We believe investing in our employees provides the greatest return, as evidenced by our high retention rate.
