The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports directly to the Chancellor & CEO of Sullivan University System and is responsible for the oversight of the Accounting, Account Resolutions (collections), and Payroll departments.Responsibilities of the position include:Reviews at the regularly scheduled meetings with the managers any self-directed goals established by each manager, upcoming deadlines, problem situations and remedies and any specific requests of system and university executive leadership.Acts as an advisor to the Chancellor & CEO on financing various projects and carrying out these projects to their completion in a professional manner.Serves as a member of the SUS Executive Committee, providing regular reports and financial information related to the operations of the organization, bringing areas of concern to the attention of the committee for stalls proper controls at various levels of the accounting functions to ensure proper safeguarding of the various assets of the corporation.Analyzes various reports for accuracy and fairness such as the general ledger, the aging reports, monthly and year-end financial statements, and other accounting-related reports or printouts necessary to ensure the financial stability of the corporation.Prepares various analyses of the general ledger accounts in order to help facilitate the year-end audit, as well as other audits as needed or required for accreditation and compliance.Prepares year-end financial statements in a consistent manner with the prior years.Reviews all income tax returns for accuracy and ensuring that all tax estimates are made on a timely basis.Participates as a member of the Career Education Funding (CEF) Committee to determine eligibility of loans for students.Participates as a member of the 401k Plan Committee, ensuring fiduciary responsibilities of the plan are met and facilitates associated reporting and compliance activities with the third-party record keeper; collaborates with human resources regarding plan communications.Performs other duties as assigned.RequirementsMinimum of a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.Certified Public Accountant (CPA).Ten years experience in a leadership position overseeing activities of an accounting department, with at least five years experience related to post-secondary education.An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.Excellent communication, written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.Ability to prepare and explain standard financial reports for an organization.Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.Knowledge of applicable computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Campus Vue, and Great Plains.Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face and via the telephone.This job description lists the major responsibilities of the job title listed.
