OverviewCity College of San Francisco is recruiting full-time Institutional Police Officers. Under the direction of the Chief of Police or designee, the officer works in the SF Community College District Police Department and acts as a peace officer pursuant to California Penal Code sections. The department is a sworn, unarmed department; officers sign a memorandum acknowledging this policy.ResponsibilitiesMaintain law and order on and around City College campuses and district sites.Provide a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.Respond to emergencies on district property in a professional and courteous manner.Uphold all applicable state and local laws, and college policies.Provide first aid when needed.Perform traffic control and investigate traffic collisions.Issue warnings, citations, and parking citations as appropriate.Patrol assigned areas in a marked vehicle or on foot.Provide escorts on district property as vestigate crimes, interview suspects, victims and witnesses, and prepare reports; make arrests as necessary and coordinate with the SF Police Department for incident reports.Assist in handling complaints, mediate disputes, and respond to inquiries; provide information and directions.Testify and present evidence in court as needed.Assist in natural disasters and other extraordinary circumstances.Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or designee.QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination).Experience: One year of experience as a police officer, member of a military police unit or other work involving safeguarding of life and property.License and Certification: Valid California Driver License; Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate required prior to field work assignment and within twelve months of hire date.Desirable Qualifications:P.O.S.T. academy certificate;60 college units in Administration of Justice (preferred);Two years of verifiable work experience; one year of law enforcement experience;Experience in educational settings and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work under pressure and handle confidential information.Application ProcessApplication filing is open until filled.
