OverviewRole Summary/Purpose: The Assistant Vice President, Principal Engineer craves working in a hands-on system design and architecture environment and leads by example to ensure time-sensitive projects are completed on time and to specifications. To be successful in this role, deep expertise in solution and event-driven architecture, microservice architecture, cloud technologies and the ability to influence and lead a team are musts.This AVP will lead the development and the life cycle management of our consumer bank and credit servicing applications by creating and developing thoughtful solutions to anticipate bugs and maintain operational excellence. In short, you would be one of our technical experts and team leaders.This position is remote, with the option to work from home. On occasion we may request commuting to the nearest office for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training, and culture events. Occasionally you may be required to commute to the nearest office for in-person engagement activities such as business or team meetings, training and culture events.ResponsibilitiesInfluence many agile development teams through all phases of the Agile development life cycle through SAFeImplement new technologies and assist developers as they migrate to new technologiesArchitect applications across the full stack, with experience in PCF, Cloud Native Application Architecture, Microservices ecosystem, J2EE, Spring Java, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL APIsDesign data models to support complex business processesDrive a CI/CD strategy using Jenkins, Bitbucket, and uDeploy stackInfluence and collaborate with software developers, UX designers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts to create appsMentor and influence all levels of the teamEnsure compliance with architecture, security and technology standards set by SynchronyAssist in crafting and maintaining future state technology architectural strategy, including application modernization and migration roadmapParticipate in Agile scrums with cross-functional teamsLead Agile sprints as the technical expert, including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming, and sprint reviewsEnsure application code quality through development, test, and QAAddress root cause analyses and incident reports; provide direction in problem resolutionAnalyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixesStay current with latest technologies and open-source projectsProvide 24x7 on-call support periodicallyIdentify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performanceWork with third-party vendors to develop or integrate software into the company’s productsPerform other duties and/or special projects as assignedQualifications/RequirementsBachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of software engineering experience or, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED with 8 years of software engineering experienceMinimum 5 years of application development experienceSpring Boot and Spring Cloud development backgroundCritical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skillsDesired CharacteristicsExperience building and consuming web services via SOAP and RESTExpertise with continuous integration environmentsExperience with writing unit, integration, and UI test casesDeep experience with responsive web design principles and cross-device supportStrong experience with Pivotal Cloud FoundryKnowledge in using Splunk for production supportExperience with Database Architecture, Modeling, and familiarity with MySQL & SQLFamiliarity with JSON, REST and XML based web servicesWorking knowledge of the overall mobile industryExcellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peersStrong cross-functional team player with ability to work across a matrix organization and with global development partnersDesire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environmentExperience developing and supporting financial/banking applicationsExcellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence clients, team members, management, and external groupsExcellent attention to detail in a team environmentStrong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to analyze, use structured problem solving and available tools to troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, action plans, impact, and resolution optionsCompensation and Other DetailsGrade/Level: 11. The salary range for this position is 115,000.00 - 200,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance. Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge. Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.Eligibility Requirements: You must be 18 years or older. You must have a high school diploma or equivalent. You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and fingerprints as part of the onboarding process. You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act. New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles; Level 8 or greater must have at least 18 months’ time in position before posting. All internal employees must meet performance expectations and have manager approval to post. This job requires legal authorization to work in the U.S. and will not sponsor visas.
