NYL REI manages a portfolio in excess of $70 Billion which includes real estate debt, real estate equities and real estate securities. The equity portfolio includes assets held in New York Life’s general account, separate accounts, an open-end core fund, closed end value add funds, and co-investments with REIT vehicles.The Real Estate Accountant is responsible for ensuring the financial integrity and timely reporting of equity real estate, including funds, property, asset, joint venture, debt compliance, GIPs, NCREIF and investor account financials. The role will work closely with Portfolio and Asset Management groups, as well as New York Life internal accounting and audit teams.We are looking for a Director-level accounting professional to oversee financial accounting and reporting for our equity real estate portfolio.What You’ll DoEnsures accurate and timely financial information is provided, as necessary, to internal management, external auditors, internal auditors, and external clientsProvides Investment oversight for our 3rd party property managersReconciliation between custodian banks and accounts, pricing, real estate reporting to the clients, appraisal adjustments and is the point person for their project’s auditAddresses and responds to specific financial requests made by internal and external clients regarding investment performance and property financial statementsMaintain and enhance accounting procedures and internal control systems Leads a team of 5 accounting professionalsOther projects as requested by senior managementWhat You’ll BringUndergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance preferred 8-15 years of accounting experience preferredExperience with property level, fair market value, historical cost GAAP accounting, Statutory Accounting, and tax reporting a plusExperience with corporate accounting and SOX reportingAbility to evaluate, document, and implement best in class policies and procedures An advanced degree or CPA designation preferredExcellent verbal and written communication, and organizational skillsMust be detail oriented and be able to work under the pressure of deadlinesMust be able to effectively interact with all levels of Company personnel, as well as external professionals.Willingness to learn and thrive in a team orientated environmentPay TransparencySalary Range: $117,500-$200,000Discretionary bonus eligible: YesActual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
