If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, treat the business as if it is your own and add value accordingly, come see why we’re Calumet Proud!PurposeThe lawyer in this role provides primary legal support to the Senior Vice President of Operations, the management teams of Calumet’s 12 operating facilities (including our Montana renewables fuels and sustainable aviation fuel facility), the Operations Excellence group, HSE group and with respect to operations-related regulatory matters. The lawyer also provides primary legal support to key elements of Calumet’s supply chain, including Corporate Procurement and the renewable feedstock and crude procurement groups. In their areas of responsibility, the lawyer is responsible to protect Calumet’s legal interests and provide legal advice so that Calumet can conduct its operations in accordance with applicable law and with the level of commercial risk acceptable to executive management.Key Objectives and ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary legal support for the areas described above, with responsibility to proactively advise the business leadership on legal issues, perform contract drafting and negotiation and provide legal input on business practices and strategies.Serve as the Legal Department’s subject matter expert in assigned areas of substantive law and proactively advise the appropriate personnel and departments across Calumet as it relates to those substantive areas.Identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, present clear recommendations, and assure legal compliance within areas of responsibility.Identify, scope and lead projects within assigned areas of responsibility to improve legal compliance and address excessive commercial risk.Lead and direct the work of others, including cross-functional internal and external legal and business teams, to achieve the objectives of improving legal compliance and addressing excessive commercial risk within assigned areas.Actively manage outside counsel and vendors performing services in support of assigned areas to ensure high quality work and value received.Negotiate, draft and/or review a broad range of documents within areas of responsibility and as requested.Draft and update corporate policies and procedures in assigned areas of responsibility.Design, create and conduct training in areas of responsibility.Other, as assigned.Required Education / ExperiencesEducation: Doctorate of Jurisprudence (JD), strong academic credentialsOther Qualifications (Licenses/Certification): Member of applicable bar7+ years of experienceCompetenciesAbility to effectively serve as primary legal advisor to sophisticated business clients.Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills.Strong problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple tasks and relationships within a fast-paced, team-oriented and lean environment.Ability to work with many deadlines, time requirement conflicts and management pressures / stressful situations.Demonstration of Calumet Values – Safety, Environment & Social Responsibility, Teamwork, Ownership, Passion for Customers, and Excellence.General StatementThe duties listed are not set forth for the purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
