OverviewThe Managing Consultant is a vital contributor to our team and project work. The position spearheads client-facing interactions and plays a leadership role in identifying the approach and methods for medium-to-large projects. Our Managing Consultants direct workstreams within projects and contribute heavily to written reports and papers, delivering findings to customers, making presentations, and replying to questions. Duties will grow to include more elaborate investigative tasks, overseeing the management of existing tools, and leading efforts on proposal writing.At Energy + Environmental Economics (E3), we work on high-profile, high-impact projects in jurisdictions that spearhead the implementation of clean energy policy. We shape energy and climate policy, play vital roles in regulatory proceedings, advise executives, and inform investment and planning decisions.ResponsibilitiesLead the delivery of customer work through modeling, developing presentations, writing, and preparing entire subsections of reports and papers, and owning customer requestsConduct independent research using ingenuity and curiosity to make reasonable assumptions and produce appropriate solutions, at times with incomplete information to fulfill end-to-end project obligationsDeliver presentations to customers and respond to questionsDevelop aptitude in using a flagship modeling tool, gather relevant data, and vet resultsOversee or assist in the management of existing tools as neededOversee or implement major revisions to toolkitsApply core QA/QC best practicesLead proposal writing on small/medium projectsTranslate results of research and evaluations into clear visual representationsHead the creation or editing of client-ready spreadsheets and develop tools for customer solutionsProactively track actual performance of own work against the established plan, with ongoing communication to the Director or ManagerTrack and manage actual performance of project teams against the established plan, with ongoing communication to project team membersCapture project learnings and develop repeatable products and samples for future useAssist with internal initiatives as neededRequirementsMaster’s degree or PhD in engineering, economics, computer science, public policy, or related field4-8 years of experience in an energy-related field with a specific focus on the power electric sectorPrior experience specifically addressing power generation, renewable energy, project economics, and the clean energy transitionDemonstrated hands-on experience or extensive knowledge in, or related to our practice areasExtensive project management experience leading collaborative project efforts while helping each member of your team to do their finest workExperience crafting a clear and compelling message both in writing and via presentationsDemonstrated experience working directly with stakeholders or customersAptitude to write and communicate clearly; passionate about the transition to a low-carbon economyDemonstrated success guiding ideas, people, and projectsHigh fluency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; quantitative modeling methods and/or programming knowledge and experience are valuedExperience with electricity or energy modeling platforms preferred (e.g., AURORA, PLEXOS, ReEDS, LEAP, NEMS)Desire to work in a dynamic office environment with other staffThings that Set You ApartDeep subject matter expertise in energy, power systems, and climate change issuesSignificant project management and leadership experience in a technical or analytical environmentExtensive experience coordinating with customers regularlyBelief in the transition to a low-carbon economy and passion for the future of energyCollaborative mindset and ability to bring out the best in each team memberAbility to translate technical concepts to a broader audienceOwnership mindset and creative problem-solving skillsPrior work experience at a management consulting firmE3’s Commitment to YouE3 provides abundant opportunities for professional growth and invests in employee development.
