OverviewSystems and Applications Engineer - Robotics at Devonics, a San Diego based company specializing in seamless integration of collaborative robots (cobot) into dynamic work environments. We focus on bridging robotics, software, and mechanical systems to deliver turnkey cobot deployments for industries including manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare.Job Summary:We are seeking a talented Systems and Applications Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy integrated cobot systems from concept to production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create robust automation solutions that leverage robotics software and hardware, at the intersection of software, mechanical design, and systems engineering in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Key ResponsibilitiesInterface with internal and external stakeholders to define and develop system level specifications.Architect and implement systems-level solutions, including real-time control algorithms, sensor fusion, and human-robot interaction interfaces.Lead the mechanical design and integration of cobot components, ensuring compatibility with end-effector tools, fixtures, and workspace environments.Engineer comprehensive automation cells, from layout planning and simulation to on-site commissioning and validation.Perform systems engineering tasks, including requirements analysis, risk assessment, interface definition, and verification testing for cobot deployments.Collaborate with hardware engineers, software developers, and project managers to troubleshoot issues, iterate on prototypes, and scale solutions for production.Document designs, processes, and user guides to support knowledge transfer and compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 10218 for robot safety).Stay abreast of emerging technologies in robotics and automation, contributing to R&D initiatives and proof-of-concept projects.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field (Master's preferred).5+ years of hands-on experience in robotics integration or automation systems.Working knowledge of programming languages including C, C++, Python, ROS1, and ROS2; experience with LUA scripting for embedded systems or robot configuration is essential.Strong background in mechanical engineering principles, including CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD), kinematics, and dynamics for robotic manipulators.Expertise in systems engineering methodologies, such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and integration of multi-domain systems (software, hardware, firmware).Proven experience in designing and implementing automation cells, including PLC integration, vision systems, and safety protocols.Familiarity with cobot platforms (e.g., Universal Robots, Doosan, or FANUC CR series) and simulation tools like Gazebo or Issac Sim.Experience with sensor solutions relative to safety, object detection, positioning and indexing or work objects.Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex systems under tight deadlines.Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.Preferred QualificationsExperience with machine vision for tegration experience with automated welding, palletizing, and/or industrial machine tending cells.Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, Modbus, PROFINET).Prior exposure to agile development practices and version control systems.Additional InformationIf you/u2019re passionate about robotics and ready to engineer the future of collaborative automation, apply by submitting your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience to .
