OverviewThe Director of Intelligent Device R&D spearheads the research and development efforts for smart devices, playing a pivotal role in driving innovation and bringing cutting-edge technology to market. They are critical in ensuring that our company remains competitive and at the forefront of the rapidly evolving intelligent device landscape.ResponsibilitiesStrategic Direction: Defining and implementing the overall R&D strategy for intelligent devices, aligning it with the company's long-term business goals and market trends.Team Leadership: Building, managing, and mentoring a high-performing R&D team, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting professional development.Product Development: Overseeing the entire product development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing, validation, industrialization, maintenance and support.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with other departments including product management, manufacturing, quality assurance, technical support, sales and marketing to ensure seamless product development and novation: Leveraging knowledge of latest industry trends, technological advancements (such as fast prototyping, sensor technologies, embedded systems, and connectivity (e.g., 5G)) and understanding customer needs to identify new opportunities and address potential challenges.Budget Management: Developing and managing the R&D budget effectively, allocating resources to maximize efficiency and achieve project tellectual Property Management: Advancing and maintaining our strong intellectual property portfolio related to new devices and technologies.Technical Documentation: Ensure proper documentation of hardware designs, including technical specifications, design verification and validation reports, and manufacturing process documentation.Qualifications, Experience, Skills & CompetenciesEducation: Bachelor’s degree in hardware engineering, or physics discipline.Experience: Minimum 15 years’ experience in research and development, particularly within the intelligent device sector, with a proven track record of successful product development and commercialization.Technical Competencies: In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electronic and firmware competencies and working knowledge of device software and best practices for integrating from an intelligent device endpoint through to cloud communication and computing.Leadership & Management: Exceptional leadership skills, including the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide a diverse team, as well as manage projects effectively.Technical Expertise: A deep understanding of the technologies and principles relevant to intelligent devices, including fast prototyping, sensor technologies, embedded systems, and connectivity (e.g., 5G).Strategic Thinking: The ability to develop and execute long-term R&D strategies that align with business munication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and people skills necessary to effectively interact with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.Product Development: Deep understanding of NPD processes, from concept to industrialization. Good knowledge of common engineering tools (CAD, PDM/PLM, MRP, etc.). Strong ability to estimate and track labor effort and product cost.Time to Market: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
