As a Senior Communications Systems Engineer, you will be a key member of the Communications Team developing the reliable and cost-efficient data link systems required to safely operate aircraft around the world from a remote control center. ResponsibilitiesDesign robust digital communication links that provide voice and data services for unmanned aircraft systems.Analyze, develop, and implement solutions including satellite and terrestrial-based RF communication networks to operate aircraft reliably within the U.S. National Airspace.Drive the communication system architecture from cradle to grave.Create models and simulations of RF links and networks; work with network providers to negotiate and validate service level agreements; test communications equipment on the ground and in flight.Establish technologies, internal processes, and business relationships that facilitate a new generation of communication for autonomy in civil aviation. Basic Success CriteriaBachelor’s degree or greater in electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, or equivalent industry experience8+ years of professional experience in the design, integration, and testing of data links for remotely operated systems (UAVs, spacecraft, etc)Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems pertaining to RF communication networksAbility to work well independently and cross-functionally across multiple organizationsExcellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred CriteriaProfessional flight experience or in-depth understanding of operations in the National Airspace SystemDemonstrated understanding of aviation digital data link technologies (e.g. CPDLC)Experience with integration and test of wireless communication systems for high assurance applicationsExperience with safety-critical software engineering processes This role is essential to the core mission of deploying civil unmanned aircraft systems. You will be on the frontier of integrating remote operation capability in the national airspace through the development of safe and reliable communication links that can operate everywhere.This role will be based at our headquarters in Mountain View, CA. Must be willing to travel 20% of the time. The estimated salary range for this position is $162,000 to $220,000/annual salary + cash and stock option awards + benefits.
