OverviewAssociate Director Teaching and Learning – Vanguard UniversityThe Associate Director is responsible for overseeing key functions for the Teaching and Learning division. This includes professional development initiatives, budget management across all departments within the division, strategic planning support, supervising interns, and organizing division-wide events. The role requires excellent professional writing, copy editing, communication, and project management skills, and the ability to support cross-functional teams and initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with faculty, academic staff, and members of the Vanguard community to advance the division's mission through strategic partnerships, effective communication, and initiatives that promote excellence in teaching and learning.Plan and facilitate gatherings and special events by establishing goals and agendas, coordinating logistics, budgets, attendance, and facilities, ensuring alignment with divisional priorities and overall effectiveness.Facilitate professional development for faculty, academic staff, and divisional colleagues in alignment with academic affairs priorities and divisional goals.Manage budgeting functions for the Teaching and Learning division, including annual planning, forecasting, monitoring expenditures, and reconciling accounts; provide oversight and training to departmental coordinators.Exercise independent judgment in division-wide decisions and serve as a liaison between the division, faculty, academic staff, administrative offices, and external groups.Hire, mentor, and supervise Teaching and Learning interns and student fellows; oversee related programs and logistics.Prepare a variety of written materials (budget reports, announcements, and updates for the Teaching and Learning website and Faculty Central) and assist with communications for the Provost, Board of Trustees, and campus community.Lead the planning and production of GoodNews-VU, including creating slide decks, recording/editing Provost video messages, drafting announcements, and coordinating distribution to stakeholders.Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency of written content; collaborate with faculty and staff to gather and distribute information aligned with institutional messaging.Plan, coordinate, and manage special projects; analyze procedures, policies, and workflows; address internal and external challenges within the division using project management skills.Maintain confidential faculty files with discretion and accuracy, ensuring compliance with policies and privacy regulations.Collaborate with the Director of Hybrid and Emerging Pedagogy to manage the repository of tools and resources for effective teaching within the Teaching and Learning knowledge base.Partner with the Faculty Development Committee to optimize professional development funding and support initiatives such as workshops and learning communities that enhance teaching effectiveness.Provide support to the Dean and coordinate with the Provost's Associate Director to achieve division goals.Perform additional duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree.5+ years of experience in higher education.Experience in innovative and effective program management, ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, and strong relationship-building and communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft 365.Knowledge of WordPress and intermediate website publishing skills.Proficiency in basic video editing and production aligned with institutional messaging.Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills across organizational levels.Strong professional writing and copy-editing skills for internal and external communications.Ability to handle multiple tasks with high accuracy and manage projects effectively.Familiarity with Vanguard University’s mission and values.Preferred Qualifications10+ years of higher education experience.Doctoral degree.Teaching credential and/or related master’s degree.Experience in sales and marketing with strong relationship-building capabilities.SalaryThis is a full-time exempt position. Salary range is $72,000 – $77,000 (annually). Placement within the range is commensurate with education and experience.
