Overview Director, Mainframe Architecture & Modernization. The Director, Architecture will work hand in hand with business leadership and engineering partners to evolve SPS mainframe (FBSI) capabilities. You will be hands on to understand mainframe MIPs/CPU usage and business capabilities, and design integrated architectures supporting SPS distributed channels with WI and brokerage partners. You will collaborate with business sponsors, project managers, engineers and architects to design, implement, test, and deploy end-to-end technology solutions and move applications out of the mainframe. The Role As a leader within the architecture team, you will work with architecture and application teams to champion innovation, drive standardization, and deliver modern technology patterns across the stack for our customers. You will contribute to the product roadmap in conjunction with business unit goals and provide leadership in computing services, platform adoption, and consolidation across the team’s initiatives. Responsibilities • Work with business sponsors, project managers, engineers and architects to design, implement, test, and deploy end-to-end technology solutions and migrate applications from the mainframe. • Evolve SPS mainframe (FBSI) capabilities and understand mainframe MIPs/CPU usage and related business capabilities. • Collaborate with WI and brokerage partners to support distributed channels. • Champion innovation, standardization, and the adoption of modern technology patterns across the stack. • Contribute to the product roadmap and provide leadership in computing services, platform adoption, and consolidation across initiatives. • Work with Solution Architects and Agile teams to assess alignment of proposed solutions with WI goals and strategies. Qualifications Education – BS or MS required. 10+ years of industry experience in architecting mainframe systems and applications. AWS and/or Azure certification a plus Demonstrable ability understanding mainframe applications including CICS batch and online, DB2, VSAM, MQ Demonstrable ability to analyze business direction and problems, understand long term vision and risk in developing strategic technical solutions. Work closely with Product/Application teams in technology evaluation, selection, recommendation, and configuration. Background with multiple enterprise technologies Knowledge of APIs, microservices architecture, infrastructure, data architecture, security, and related areas with expertise in one or more. Working knowledge of technical architecture including operational excellence, security, reliability, performance, and cost optimization Authoritative understanding of agile development and DevOps practices. Ability to collaborate with peer architects to refactor processes and improve customer experience. Ability to work independently and with various organizational levels. Ensure technology decisions align with enterprise standards and strategy. Ability to provide technical leadership and solutions to agile teams. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting to drive resolution of technical issues. Leads conceptual and abstract problem domains. Strong presentation, documentation, communication, and influencing skills for both technical and non-technical partners. Experience in networking across business units to optimize reusable processes and patterns with strong results. Passion for staying current with technology trends and applying them to drive results. Willingness to experiment, innovate, and learn. Financial industry experience is a plus.
