OverviewThe Groundman position is your first step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation’s Power Grid. The team-member is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires rigorous physical labor; may require sitting, climbing structures (wood, steel, etc.), balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crawling. Team-members frequently lift or move 50 lbs or more. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustments.Work EnvironmentTeam-members may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Occasional exposure to extreme conditions at construction sites. Noise levels can be loud. Powerline construction work is performed outside and is subject to diverse weather conditions.General ExpectationsAble to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.Able to read/write and communicate effectively.Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.Able to lift 50 lbs or more.Willing to work overtime when requested.Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends and holidays as required.Functions to be Expected in Overhead Powerline ConstructionWork safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized overhead spect rubber goods and PPE.Understand when to wear PPE.Strings overhead wire.Sets poles and anchors.Assist with installing transformers, arresters, cutouts, cross-arms, insulators, switches and switchgear.Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clears faulted circuits and systems.Work with energized high voltage systems with care to protect lives.Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.Able to perform rigorous physical labor.Understand proper use of company radio.Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying.Understand proper use and maintenance of hand tools.Capable of receiving and following directions.Possess a basic knowledge of materials used in line work.Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.Familiar with induced voltage.Capable of assisting with installation and hookup of a single-phase transformer.Capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape.Understand basic concepts of equipment setup and grounding.Capable of working at heights and/or in confined spaces.Understand minimum approach distance and excavation/shoring requirements.Capable of checking voltage on transformers and installing/removing a service.Able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and have necessary tools.Understand how and when to use Kellum grips.Able to identify different materials used in line work.Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.Performs other related duties as required to complete the job.Equal Opportunity EmployerEqual Opportunity Employer - Minorities/Females/Veterans/Disabled.
