Director of Fellowships and Financial AidPOSITION DETAILSThe Graduate Center (GC) is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at the City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City's intellectual and cultural life.The Office of Fellowships and Financial Aid is responsible for providing in excess of $51 million in financial aid for students attending three CUNY colleges: The Graduate Center, The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, and the School of Labor and Urban Studies.Reporting to the Associate Provost and Dean of Financial Aid, duties include but are not limited to:Oversees the daily operations of the Office of Fellowships and Financial Aid.Manages and supervises activities and services related to financial aid matters to both prospective and enrolled students at the Graduate School and University Center (GC), including the Graduate School of Journalism (SOJ) and the School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU).Completes and files all federal and institutional reports on financial aid matters pertaining to any college within the GC, including SOJ and SLU, School of Professional Studies, and the School of Public Health. Plus the addition of the School of Medicine in the future.Works with the Offices of Admissions, Bursar, Registrar, as well as the academic programs at SOJ and SLU in the administration of their institutional scholarships.Oversees the packaging of the components of multi-year fellowships, scholarships, federal and state grants, and federal and private loans.Maintains a financial aid and fellowship web page for current and prospective students.Monitors doctoral admissions process as it relates to fellowships and financial aid, to ensure that enrollment targets are hit.Maintains a system to counsel students about fellowships that maximizes student satisfaction and supports student success.Supervises staff, including student graduate assistants, with an emphasis on student service, federal regulatory compliance, and the monitoring and control of institutional financial aid resources.Maintains a thorough knowledge of all policies, procedures, and regulations related to federal and state financial aid programs, including Pell, TAP, Federal Work-Study, unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans, PLUS Loans for Graduate Students, and Federal Perkins Loans.Serves as the College's liaison to the CUNY Central Office regarding financial aid.Perform other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.A preferred candidate should have:Master's degree.Thorough knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid programs.Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff and students.Effective technology skills including with electronic systems such as PeopleSoft. Experience with SQL and/or query writing in PeopleSoft strongly preferred.Excellent customer service and organizational skills.Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.Supervisory experience.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.CUNY TITLE OVERVIEWDevelops and oversees student financial aid programs in accordance with Federal/State laws and regulations and University guidelines.Develops and interprets financial aid policies and procedures with regard to Federal and NY State programs such as internal loan programs, all state and federal loan programs, Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans, College Work Study, and Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)Reports on general and fiscal matters such as program expenditures, projections of full-year spending potential, and analyses of spending patternsAuthorizes the disbursement of fundsMonitors compliance with Federal and State financial aid regulations, developing and implementing compliance proceduresServes as College liaison to Federal, State, local and professional agencies on financial aid mattersAssures that the Financial Aid function works effectively with other College units (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, Bursar)Manages financial aid staffing, development, and evaluationPerforms related duties as assigned.CUNY TITLEHigher Education OfficerFLSAExemptCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS$126,333-$136,546/year.
